Hello all,
I'm currently running a Joomla! site, while i still enjoy using Joomla! it does not serve my communities needs as they feel it should, after a little looking around and playing with a lot of demos i am highly impressed with ocPortal which pretty much was the easiest choice due to its complete tied together system.

While i investigate further into the system I'm finding it more and more useful - so hats off to the devs for that.

As mentioned above i run a Joomla! 1.5.x site using multiple extensions to hold the community together by various developers - meaning intergrations are somewhat loose in certain area. Moving to ocPortal seems the perfection solution but im stumbling on one simple point at the moment.

While the site offers a large download but is pretty much a news focused site, I'm happy to import elements of my Joomla! site i wish to keep manually however i wish to move all stories with the correct date - however it appears the news system does not allow selecting of the date.

is this something i missed or overlooked ?

Hi,

is this something i missed or overlooked ?

No, it's not currently a feature.

If you're looking to transfer manually it's probably worth investing a little time in learning how to edit the database manually in phpMyAdmin, and a tool like http://www.4webhelp.net/us/timestamp.php. You can manually generate and insert timestamps into the news table.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

thanks, i had actually looked over that prior to posting, its not that I'm uncomfy with phpmyadmin or MySQL in general - more lazyness (500 articles are a lot of work + 3000 download imports) painful process :(

I'll keep pondering a lazy way for now and report back on my findings :) may look at writing an export/import/conversion script

Writing your own script 'tiz good idea, or, if you have a copy of Microsoft Access and the MySQL ODBC connector, that may help as well.

Linux and Mac user so MS is out of the question will probably go with TCL and screw my brains with regex. As a slight side point - do you see it possibly being a feature in the future.. i do like to add backnews from time to time (stories i have missed for example) prevents me looking slow ;)
