Newbie questions on users and pages

What I'm looking to do is to have user A be accessable to page A for posting text and images.  For instance resteraunt A would be allowed to change the food menu and images for their resteraunt page.  Car dealer A would be able to change his monthly specials on his page etc.  1st is this doable with ocportal?  Secondly is there a tuitorial or guideline to walk someone as novice as I am?  Thanks sincerely for all of the help!  TT

Hello,

Setting permissions on who can edit individual pages isn't possible out-of-the-box - it would require a programmer to make some code changes to ocPortal.

If you tell us about anything you find confusing, we'll be reading and will answer any questions. It will also help us understand specific areas where we can improve our documentation.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

There is a feature in ocPortal called "personal news categories". It was created so that each user could have their own blog, but you might be able to use it for your purpose. For example, you might be able to have your users "post" their menus/monthly specials as one news post in their personal category. Then you could have them edit that "news post" to make changes.

It isn't a very elegant solution, but try it and see if it works for you. You could edit the language strings so that it doesn't tell them they're editing "personal news categories"; you could modify those language strings to call them "My page", for instance.

I haven't tried doing this so you might run into a problem I haven't thought of, but I bet it's worth a shot.
