Need help with hosting site

Hi all-

New to forum and ocPortal. Having issues getting the install.php to take. I am attempting to install on a Network hosted site and have all the FTP info needed.

I think my database is through a UNIX socket? Will this affect my ability to upload and execute right? (it is running mysql v5)

  • MySQL client version: 5.0.45
  • Used PHP extensions: mysql
  • Server version: 5.0.45
  • Server: Localhost via UNIX socket
  • MySQL charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)
  • Thanks in advance

Unix sockets are fine. You just need to specify 'localhost' as the database host, and assuming the socket is properly positioned on the server, it'll all work smoothly.

What's the exact problem your getting? Some kind of error back?

    • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
    • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
    • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks for the reply. For whatever reason, the quick installer was not working with my host and database provider. I have since manually installed the files on my FTP and have no issues, up and running fine for now (took some time to update permissions).

    Thanks for the quick reply-

    Honoured member

Yeah, permission setting is a pain. :P

If your hosting provider supports SSH, you can execute a script via SSH that will automatically configure all permissions on all necessary files & folders for you.
