approving club access requests

Is it possible to list multiple User Group Leaders for a Club?

The instructions do not tell how to do this or that it is not possible.

I would like to propose usernames can be separated by a semicolon in the Usergroup Leader field.

That's not a feature currently, no.

Your proposal makes perfect sense, but it would require database design changes on top of adding the functionality.

A workaround would be to simply have dummy accounts as leaders, with multiple people being given access to each, and the email address of these accounts being mail forwarders to those people. Or, I would note that admins automatically lead any usergroup. Depending on what you're trying to do, these may not be ideal I understand, e.g. if lots of groups are being created by lots of people, it's not a trivial set up to expect people to do.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Running oCP as a gaming Communications Hub for several units.  Each unit is automonous with their own leadership; thus, determine who shall be members to their unit, e.g. Club.

I am looking for opportunities to lesson Admin duties; whereas, this Club feature is ideal.
Would it be possible to add another field for "Alternate Usergroup Leader" in the future?  I think one alternate should be standard.

The short answer is that we need to find funding for all development, so it depends on finding a project/sponsor to fund this through.

Thinking more on this subject Chris I've come up with an alternative to what I've proposed earlier.

Possibly, another field can be added to the user group permissions table. Creating another privilege to act as user group owner; thus, approval for new club members and other powers associated with club/group management.

This might prove to be more flexible in the long run.

You mean, a privilege to control any group you're in as if you are its leader?

Yes Chris…making it no different for assigning the privilege to delete someone else's post.

Consider one user group for members and a second user group for leadership. This way the club/group has the flexibility needed.

The problem is that that doesn't really scale. For things like delete privileges, they can be pinpointed to specific categories. But you can't pinpoint a groups privilege back to an individual group, because we don't support privilege overrides on groups, and if we did I think it would confuse the heck out of people. Adding multiple leaders is more intuitive, and just expands the functionality already there without any new concept.
