CANNOT get tree structure selection mechanism to work - Bug?

Hi, Chris, Allen:

I'm having brain-damage in creating various content containers, categories, etc., on my test site, but I think it's a bug. I'm using the superadmin persona. I create something like a Gallery, when I then go to access the Gallery, for example to add an image, I cannot seem to get past the Codename field, which requires selection of the category via the root/tree structure. I click and click and click (until I sound like some crepuscular insect), but nothing works. I consistently get the message: "This is a required field and must therefore be filled in" even though I have repeatedly made the selection. On the "add image" page it's as if I've done nothing - no entry is highlighted; on the "edit gallery" page, it highlights the gallery I want, but then behaves as though the gallery remains unselected. I'm running into this in galleries (to add items, or to edit the gallery) and in News, so it's the function itself, not the section, if that makes sense. I'm using an IE browser, v.7.0.5730.11. When I hover over the items (categories, galleries, whatever) shown on the tree, I get a url that looks like this; MYSITE/ocp/cms/null .

Thoughts, gang? I could use some help here. I ran into it earlier today and blew it off as a glitch, but tonight it clearly isn't, it's a repeated behavior.

Best regards,

Hitch

bump, still need help...

Anybody??? Amichan, SoccerDad…anybody have an idea? If I'm overlooking something screamingly obvious (I mean, seriously - is it something so pedestrian that I've just missed it?), please advise…I would rather look like an idiot than hinder progress….

Thanks,

Hitch

Hi,

I'll try and reply tomorrow - please bear in mind it's been the weekend.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Sorry,  :$ .  It wasn't my intent to chide; I really was asking the others if they had any experience with this.  I thought you'd be asleep, didn't think you would see this before Monday.

No problem, my bad. I work in this quasi mid-Atlantic timezone, so I can talk to both our US and UK clients effectively ;).

But I will get you answers to both your topics tomorrow if I can fit it in. Got some stuff to catch up on :).

Hi Hitch,

Sorry about this. It's caused by a really nasty Internet Explorer bug. The Admin Zone search we introduced in 4.1 basically is conflicting with all the forms in the Admin and CMS zones.

The attached files should fix the problem for you.

Attachment
themes/default/templates/HEADER.tpl
» Download: HEADER.tpl (5 Kb, 147 downloads so far)

Attachment
adminzone/pages/modules/admin.php
» Download: admin.php (23 Kb, 135 downloads so far)

Gosh, I wish Microsoft took more responsibility for their bugs - they don't have an excuse for this one.

Okay, now this is driving me bonkers; today I hit "reply" and got the full-blown editor (I asked about this in my other post).

That aside, I greatly appreciate the fix; we'll get 'em downloaded and let you know how that works out.
