Hello all; first, I would like to thank you for ocPortal, it's a wonderful CMS and, so far, I enjoy using it to create my wife's website.

The learning curve is rather steep, though, and I find myself scratching my head trying to figure out simple tasks, such as adding a link to the main menu at the top of the website; for example:

on ocportal.com they have:
  • Home;
  • About;
  • Download;
  • Support;
  • Community;
  • Contribute;
  • Pro web design; and
  • Pre-installed hosting.
I apologize in advance if it is something simple to do this, I have a brain injury and sometimes I literally cannot see what is in front of my eyes :/.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Steve

I have been searching around the menu management area but cannot find the menu that shows on my front page.  On my front page I have:
  • Site; and
  • Social.
I want to remove "Social" and add "About," "Galleries," "Links," and "Contact."

Okay, found it under "zone_menu" and noticed that certain menus were hidden based on login status; found that you can select from the site tree on the right.

Congrats. You're learning the 'hard way', but it is eminently satisfying when you work it out - eventually.

Keep on truckin', and ENJOY!

 :thumbs:

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Thank you, Fletch; it's always difficult to learn a new system.  I expect it to be highly rewarding  ;)

Hi and welcome to OCP!  You'll find a ton of support here, and many fans of the application as well.

In terms of the hidden menus, when you are editing your menus either directly or via 'menu management' under the structure menu in your admin zone, you'll find when you select the branch of a menu that you want to edit and you click on the name, the screen will expand and you'll find an area displayed called "options".  Under there you'll find a check box for "only display if has permission".
That option is tied directly to your settings in the 'permissions tree editor' which is under the Security menu in the admin zone.  If you play around with it, it will become clear to you and is extrememly powerful and easy to use!

Good luck!

I know this is somewhat old, but i'm not sure why this just wasn't pointed out

Another amazing feature of this fantastic system is the ability to edit a lot on the front end. Hover over any menu set (being admin) and you get a tiny little 'M' to pop up as shown in the image above. It then says, Edit Menu: zone_menu. You can click the 'M' and it will instantly bring you into that section of the admin panel to edit it.

Its a bit easier doing this way, no guessing which menu might be which. Plus just an awesome convenient feature that I don't think any other CMS has :)

Hi Steve and welcome to the forums.

As fadedout pointed out it is a much easier and shorter way of getting to the menu editor.

Also just to explain a bit.  The top menu, or Zone menu is primarily used for zones.  The Site zone is your main zone and shares common menus and such.  They use the same left and right panels, same theme etc.  The Social zone or Forum is a separate zone from your Site zone and as you can see has different panels menus etc.  Your Admin Zone of course is a separte zone as is the Content or CMS zone.  When you add a new zone to your site you are asked if you want that zone to appear in the zone menu. If you check the box that zone is then added to the top/zone menu so you don't have to add it manually.  Of course nothing is written in stone and a lot of folks use the top menu as a navigation menu instead of using it for zones and there's nothing wrong about that at all. Especially if you don't have any other zones.

You'll also find, if you've not already, if you use the Add New Page Wizard, in Admin Zone / Structure, that when you create a new page the wizard will ask you what zone and what menu you wish the link to the new page to appear and will automaticly add it to that menu as well.

You'll find the folks around here are very quick to help so don't hesitate to ask anything even if you think it is a dumb question.  After all, the only dumb question is that question you won't ask.
