I'm pleased to say that our team has now started internal beta testing of ocPortal version 3, meaning that it is virtually feature-complete. As we've been pretty quiet the last few months, we've decided to prepare a special treat for our users…

For every single day in May we are going to post some significant product or company news on our blog. These aren't going to be little things like "We've made it so you can create catalogue tree structures instantly using a short-hand notation" (although we did do that ;)): they'll be fairly major things, most of which we've kept completely secret until now.

Whatsmore, at the end of May we will actually release a public beta of ocPortal version 3.

Some of our users have mentioned how the community has been quiet around here as of late - we'd all personally love it if everyone embraces this opportunity to make their collective voices heard. It hasn't been used much yet, but people can reply to the blog - and chances are we'll reply back. It could be a lot of fun for everyone, and whatsmore, it is an opportunity to influence us during the prime time that we are tweaking things. So please, make your voice heard and join in the fun.

The first blog post, coming on Monday, will be about the 'Award system'. You might be able to guess what that is, or you might be clueless - let the speculation begin ;).

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
