Fan in training

Also looks like all email notifications are not working

I've tested phpmail with another script and it seems to work fine - this is hosted on Dotster and deployed with Mojo.  Anyone else have this problem?  Since it is hosted I'm looking for suggestions on how to troubleshoot.  I haven't resorted to switching to SMTP - from the docs it looks like phpmail is the recommended path.

If you'd like us to run some tests on the hosting, you can submit a free bug report ticket with access details:

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Ok, no ticket was opened, so I'll give some vague suggestions…

1) Very carefully check your spam folder. Spam filters typically run a complex set of calculations to detect if something is 'spam'. It could well by a domain SPF setting is wrong, and combined with ocPortal emails being more complex than some other software, that knocking it over a spam threshold. That is just one of many possibilities that should be looked into if it is indeed a spam-filtering issue. You can find services where you send an email to them and they auto-reply back with a spam score.

2) It could be this issue https://github.com/chrisgraham/ocPortal/commit/3ecb8db

3) It could be some host/software-specific bug (2 is a bug in some server software, but it could be another one - this is why I like to investigate particular incidents).

4) The Bettermail addon might help. That will send email using a totally different set of code that could incidentally workaround a bug in the server software.
