Can't log in

I want to update my personal profile & add  a photo.  When I try to log in I get the login page again and this message:-

You do not have access to the zone, personalzone (or the zone requiresa session login, and you are only logged in with cookies).

I can't find anything in the documentation about the Personal Zone.

I get a similar message when I click on the Content Management button.

ocPortal is set up to require a 'session' to get into certain areas. There are some reasons for this, but it's a bit complex to explain (I think the Security tutorial goes into it). I'm not sure why you'd be getting this error repeatedly if you had actually logged in; it's probably something to do with cookie settings in the browser, an interfering firewall, or an IP address that keeps changing.

Anyway, you can relax the ocPortal security by running this query using something like phpMyAdmin:

Code

UPDATE ocp2_zones SET zone_require_session=0

It's not particularly unsafe to have it like this, so I wouldn't worry. Ideally it'd be good to work out why the problem is happening, but I'm pretty sure it's not actually an ocPortal bug because we've had this functionality for at least a year now.

Thank you. I tried deleting cookies and turning off the firewall without effect.  Is there a procedure I could follow to check out what is causing the problem?  My technical skills are limited so I don't know how to run the query you suggest.  I assume I do it by logging into my database.

It seems to me that it would be easier to change to hosting on the ocportal server.  I decided against this initally because the licence says I cannot run ads on my site if ocportal hosts it.  Does that still apply if I purchase and register my copy and still have it hosted by ocportal.  I don't plan to run ads initially but there is a possibility that I could have advertisers on my site in the future.

You'll need to log into your hosting control panel (not the ocPortal adminzone), select phpMyAdmin (or MySQL databases, or something similar), and enter the query in the SQL tab.

If you used a different table prefix to ocPortal (something other than the default 'ocp2_'), make the appropriate substitution in the query.

You don't actually need to run a manual query to do this: the alternative is to browse the rows in the zones table and manually change them all so zone_require_session is 0 where it is currently 1.

This is still not working for me on the ocportal site.  I get that session login message but my login is not accepted.

I can't access the personal zone to update my profile, upload an avatar etc or access the content management zone even though I am already logged in.

Turning off the firewall has no effect.

I deleted the cookies from my browser (Firefox Mozilla) and that had no effect either.

Do I have to shutdown and restart for these to have an effect?

It seems to be working alright on my website - pathways.myocp.com - when I am logged in as administrator.

I did a little digging to see if your IP address changed a lot. It does, but not so much as to cause huge problems. I did however find something I've never seen, in all the years I've been doing ocPortal – your IP address was detected to an unvalid address (it was valid, then had some junk stuck on it's end). I think that's been throwing off our IP code. I've made a change to filter out the junk, and hopefully it's fixed here now.

Thank you,  As you can see from the avatar I can access the personal zone now.  I think it was the firewall because I tried first on another computer earlier today with no firewall and I could access it.  Then I turned off my firewall and it worked.  I use ZoneAlarm (free version) but will be reviewing that now.

That has a filter on its own to though hackers off, which is what Chris found.
I used to have that little add on code be posted along with every post I made at one forum. So it messed up a few pages on the site.
Zone alarm modified it since then and its not posted to forums any more.
Its been a year since I used zone alarm as I switched to sonicwall.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Thanks.
I should warn you sonicwall is expensive.
I will look for another one for you. Zone Alarm is not bad by any means that extra stuff on the ip is to protect you.

I think if you go to her profile you'll see a link to her points profile, where you can give her some points yourself :).
