Does anyone else have or had an issue with, after logging in, being bumped out to the log in page and having to log back in when using a cell phone to access their site. My site is closed to the public and I log in as admin (the only member right now) while I get the site constructed.

I am using ocPortal v9.0.16 on a Samsung Galaxy S5. I have not noticed a pattern to being kicked out - such as every 3 clicks or every time or when I go to certain pages, it just seems completely random but very maddening to me and completely unacceptable to any other potential site members.

Likely your IP is cycling. Try disabling "Enforce IP addresses for sessions" config option, although it does lower security (means if someone can get your session ID, they get your login).

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

That suggestion did seem to have fixed the issue however I am now a little concerned that it might be  somewhat of a compromise in security as you mention....

Yeah, it's a shame.

Are you moving about, or it just loses IP when you're sticking in roughly the same spot?

Who's the cellphone company?

It doesn't make things insecure, but it removes a layer of protection. Nobody should be able to get your session ID, but if they can, then it becomes a major issue.

I have only noticed it at home where I work. I have not tried it out out in the wild to see if it is the same. I am using the wifi from my home it is supplied by Comcast otherwise if I were out in the wild it would be T-mobile.

I suppose one possibility is if it is flipping between wi-fi and cellular, when losing wi-fi connection. You could confirm that via 'investigate user' on yourself.
