I need to allow members to upload video to one specific gallery however they should not be able to upload video anywhere else. I think I have the gallery side covered but there seems  to be a problem with catalog entries.

In my catalog, I have created a field of type "An uploaded picture" however members can upload a movie (in my case, an mp4) without getting an error until after the upload has apparently succeeded. They then get a message about a corrupted file or unsupported file type. The video file should be rejected when chosen or, maybe, there should be additional field type options.

Any thoughts on this?

Sorry, client-side file-type validation is not supported, beyond checking against ocPortal's site-wide file-type restrictions.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Certainly not the answer I wanted to hear but I suspect my use case is probably quite a bit different than the most ocPortal users.

I'd personally like to see the galleries based on catalogs with the "gallery" just a presentation layer that could be assigned to specific catalogs.
