in Forum member bar

One of my members just pointed out to me that the Last Visit date/time in the forum member bar is inaccurate. I've tried logging out and back in, which updates the time (temporarily), but then the new post/topic count is off. After a while, the date reverts to August 23rd, although we have visited many times since then. I've tried clearing caches too, but that doesn't work either.

Any suggestions or ideas about what it could be and how to fix it?

Hi,

Could you be misunderstanding how this works? It shows the viewer's last visit, not the last visit of any members, and the number of topics/posts since that last visit. Logging in/out would force a new visit to count (also reopening the browser would) – so typically the topics/posts would reset to zero (depending on how quickly you did it). However, if you switched accounts, I think it would then show the last visit for the other account.

Essentially member profiles contain a last visit date, which is maintained as you click through the site. If you login, or open the browser, it copies that into a cookie that's value persists until you login again or reopen the browser. The cookie is the reference point which is used in the member bar.

Hi Chris,

No, I don't think so - well, maybe partially. :$

Okay, I understood that it's supposed to show the last visit for the account viewing and not all members. I know that logging in and out would force a new session and that the member's browser is set to clear cookies upon closing the window.

What is odd is that we've both started new sessions more recently than Aug. 23rd, so we're not sure why it is stuck on that even though it has registered more recent visits, nor why we are seeing the same date even though the data should be different for our accounts. Since we've been active today, should that not be today's date?

Speaking of profiles, I just checked mine and it says:

Online now: Yes (August 23rd 2013, 3:49 PM)
The time listed for me doesn't match what's in the member bar.

From the member's profile:

Online now: Not online; last online 4 days ago (August 23rd 2013, 1:38 PM)
That's wrong too, because he last submitted posts today and he has been active every day since then, so that should say August 28th for both of us.

My join date is also wrong - I just installed this last week, but it reads March 14th.

Okay, this helps – it shows the database last visit time isn't updating, which is independent to cookies and much simpler. I'll see if I can find something that could cause it.

Thanks Chris and you're welcome :)

You're quick!

Well, it seems to be synced up for me, but maybe I need to wait for my friend to login again to see if it updates for his end. As of now, it still says the same thing on his profile. I'll let you know - I think it will be fine though, since mine is. :)
