So I just installed ocPortal for the first time. I downloaded the latest installer from the site, uploaded via ftp, made my database, followed the on-screen instructions, and finally completed the setup wizard (choosing community and a few custom features). I deleted the install.php and data.ocp files. I received no errors during install.

Everything looks and works fine except I get an error when I go to /adminzone/index.php. Everything else in the admin area seems to work fine for now.

This is the error:

Unfortunately a query has failed [SELECT * FROM cg_news_categories WHERE (nc_owner IS NULL) ] [Table 'walvinme_cg.cg_news_categories' doesn't exist] (version: 9.0.9, PHP version: 5.4.20, URL: /adminzone/index.php).

I can copypasta the stack trace if needed, but it's massively long. Looks like a table didn't populate in my database or the script is pointing to the wrong place. I don't have a whole lot of experience on the development side but I'm willing to do what it takes.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond.

Could you post that stack trace please.

It may be that something has an unguarded dependency on news, which was likely uninstalled.

Thanks for a quick reply! I'm impressed. The stack trace is so large I really didn't know what to do with it. I tried pasting and posting a bunch of times but due to size limitations it was a mess. I ended up copying it into a .txt file and uploaded it to my server.

Okay, so the syndication_blocks addon is encoded to depend on news, but I guess there's a bug in the Setup Wizard, with it not enforcing that dependency.

Go to http://yoursite/adminzone/index.php?page=admin_addons and either install news, or uninstall syndication_blocks.

I'll look into the Setup Wizard bug soon :).

I uninstalled syndication and syndication_blocks and it fixed everything. I don't know if I needed to uninstall syndication too but it didn't seem like I was using it so I didn't see a point in keeping it. Thank you again for the help! I gotta say I'm really loving ocPortal!

Great :).

I tracked down the origin of this bug.

Essentially the Setup Wizard is not tracking chains of dependencies. If A depends on B depends on C, it lets C uninstall if B is also uninstalled even if A has been set to stay installed.
