GoDaddy Shared Hosting

Hello!

Just experienced problems with hosting company as they claimed that web site was overloading their server;

Their migrated a web site to other server…

Chris have already told me in one post couple months ago that BLOG SIZE is using a lot of database and server resources

I am not sure what caused this problem..

Is it possible that Newsletter script can cause this problem?

Just in that day when it happened I have accidentally send a newsletter TWICE to 700 web site users

Can somebody visit a site please, maybe anybody can see something unusual
Possible cause:

1. Huge Blog Size
2. Newsletter action

The link is provided in signature

Many Thanks

Many Thanks

Are you using the trackback?

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

(A slow down bug with trackback was fixed some time ago in v3.)

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Well, what else can slow it down? :(

I don't really think it is trackback..

This issue really puts under consideration to use ocportal in the future
If it happens again

Thanks

It very likely is caused by the amount of data. Normally a site would only have about 3 scrollable screens as a maximum, ocPortal isn't really designed for much more. It probably could be optimised by a programmer, but as it's not a bug I can't really offer to help for free I'm afraid.

4.1.5 will be out soonish and that decreases memory usage massively, so potentially could help you.

Memory usage is just one performance aspect. It might still use a lot of DB connections and CPU for long pages. You can check how many DB queries are being used from inside ocPortal (in the personal stats block there's a little drop down you can use to access the stats). Above 130 and I'd be worried (ideally 20ish). A simple way to measure CPU is load times; as long as it doesn't take say 4 seconds before the page STARTS to transfer to your computer you're ok.
Other aspects: bandwidth, and number of connections (e.g. if a page contains lots of images, that could put a load on the server due to the number of different connections required to fully load the page).

Many thanks for this solution Chris!

I will have a look at these aspects!

Possibly I have to reduce the size of main and blog pages.

Thank You !

Oh ok I just remember it was an issue on my site a year or so ago.
I think I had 3.2 or maybe it was 3.1 I am not sure but I do remember it was not nearly as big of a cpu hog as  trying to use mkportal with a lot of blocks.

I do hope 4.1.5 helps this member and my self  but for me keeping the track back off helps a great deal, on both my sites.

I've got a site that has barely even gone live, does not have anything going on at the moment, and got a Total: 94 Time 0:00

Is the 94 the number that you are saying is getting a bit high?  Why would I already have such a high number with nobody on the site?

The query count is per page-view, so doesn't go down or up in proportion to usage. Of course the total query rate for all page views goes down or up, but that's not what's being reported here.

If the block cache isn't on that could result in a higher query count. Also having more blocks results in a higher query count.

I wouldn't worry too much. Some people obsess about queries, but mostly they don't understand how fast MySQL is compared to how database systems were 10 years ago – you just need to look at that figure to see all your queries together finished in less than a second.
