Although I could use this feature for many things like sending an email, divert to another page eg install instructions, etc etc right now I would like the down loader to complete a pole either before or after they download a piece of software from my site.

Does anyone know if this is possible or how this might be done?

Probably not as elegant a solution as you're hoping for, but you can get close. Instead of automatically redirecting after download, you can add custom fields to the Downloads catalogue that hold links to install instructions and to a poll.

In Content Management->Downloads->Choose custom Downloads fields create two new fields. One field for install instructions and one field for a poll. For the install instructions field, for the Type, scroll down to the bottom where you'll find the References section. If you have install instructions for all programs in Wiki+, choose the 'A link to an item of cedi_pages content' option. If you store them in a Catalogue, choose the catalogue_entry option. If you store them in a forum post, choose the forum_topic option. The poll might be limited to a forum topic poll. I haven't tried adding a main_poll block to a catalogue or wiki+ page. So you may want to try adding a poll to one of those areas first to see if it works, if a forum topic poll isn't ideal.

Then you just have to go back through and edit your existing downloads so these new fields point to the correct pages. It's easy too, no need to gather URLs. You'll be able to select catalogue entries, wiki+ pages, and forum topics from an expandable tree. Once set, these new fields will display with their links on the Download Entry page. Since downloading can also happen in the main Download category view, you may need to edit one of the Download templates to get these new fields to display there as well.

Hi Jason,

That's an idea, I'll look into it.

Thanks

Hi Jason,

I read your suggestion when I was in rather a rush and having re-read it I realise that this is not what I'm looking for. I already use custom fields extensively in OCP very much in the manner you describe.

What I'm looking for is something that is not optional (from the members point of view).

Thanks all the same for the suggestion

I am afraid no elegant solution could be devised without requiring some coding. I can't help but wonder though if the work flows addon couldn't be modified to somehow work for your needs. Course you'd need to be a coder to do it or find/hire someone to do it for you.
