I purchased a copy of IPB, and wanted to know if it's possible to integrate IPB with ocPortal, although I have already configured ocPortal to use OCF. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. :)

As far as I know there is no way of converting from ocf to ipb.
How ever you can do what I did when I switched from ocf to smf and that was to just start from scratch and preregister every member you have now.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

No, I'm not asking for a conversion… I'm willing to re-create all forums and all, I just wanted to know if I can start using IPB without ruining my database. Basically, I would like to somehow disable OCF, and begin making ocPortal integrate with IPB.

I think you would have to reinstall ocPortal and it does with well with ipb. I have a site that uses both and it runs great.
Its very seemless. Then again I have the ipb looking a lot like ocPortal to make it look like the 2 belong together.

My advice would be to take a couple of backups of your current site, and install ocPortal along with IPB in parallel to your existing installation (i.e. have two ocP installations at once). You can then transfer the content (possibly using our backup/importer system) and delete the old site once you're finished.

Just to get some feedback: why are you moving from OCF to IPB?

I was told by Chris that importer does not work over different forum drivers.
I was told that when I tried to do that.
I had the 2 running in parallel to move the content over.
The importer actually messed the smf install up so I had to reinstall it.
So I backed up the the content to a text files and imported it manually.

I prefer to use IPB because of its features, and available skins/mods for it. Although I don't think ocPortal is compatible with IPB 2.2

Philip, I'm not sure if that would work, at least not without getting a bunch of errors as my ocPortal was slightly modded so I could install it. I guess something is wrong with my Database, so Chris modded it so it could be installed.

Yes I was thinking the same thing.
I wonder though if it can still be installed over top the other one with out messing up the modded files.
It does depend on what files where changed.
if its files that have to do with members and the forum those will no longer even be needed if you use ipb.

I don't know if ocPortal is compatible with IPB 2.2, but if it isn't we'll fix that in a patch release if we can get access to test data.

With regards to switching forums, it's highly non-recommended because the member and usergroup ID numbers are shared between forum and ocPortal, and a switch would cause a loss of all consistency. For example, permissions would get messed up because the permissions are assigned to group IDs and if those change, the permissions are misassigned.
In some cases we make forum importers that allow you to switch to OCF after finishing import, but I can't guarantee these are kept up-to-date because forum data formats change so regularly.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Thats my test for it.
The only problem I found is it did not make the forum zone at the top.
