As the title says. How do you turn off (deselect) the Intro Forum ID that is a configuration setting (Admin Zone/Setup/Configuration/Member and Forum options/usernames, passwords and member accounts).

The explanatory text implies that you can turn this off (if you want.......). Obviously I have tried clicking and ctrl+clicking to deselect the selected forum.

This is an undesirable feature for our implementation as it allows newly joined members (the feature bypasses validation)to always be able to make a post and our wish is to enforce post validation (ie spammers targeting the site still get a chance to get a spam post in per member created).

I've considered setting up a forum to which general user don't have access. However, I suspect that access restrictions would apply and that genuine users would suffer unnecessary confusion (tell us about yourself, sorry you can't).

Regards, Mike.

Hi,

This sounds like it could be a bug. I tested the other day on Mac/Chrome, will see if I can reproduce.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Hi,

Yes, it was a bug on Firefox, sorry about that. I have just fixed, the fix will appear on your site in the next day or so :).

To workaround you can ignore the colouration. It's actually just a display issue, if you ctrl+click it does deselect, it's just it doesn't register that visually.

Thanks Chris. Going to rush off and apply.

Had to install Chrome as I couldn't tell whether it was on or off (always highlighted), although I didn't try restarting browser. Tried Opera, same as Firefox. So now I have to live with the shame of having resorted to using Chrome. :'(
