I have a IPB 2.0 forum and the integration is very good. I made a name and only 2 seconds later I logged in the CMS and it worked. So thats perfect work. Good job.

The other problem im having though…it doesnt login both ways. I login on the CMS, but im not logged in on the forum…thats a downfall. I really like this system so far, but I need that to work…is it a bug or just something that would need to be added? Everything else seems to be pretty good. Thanks for an excellent system!

Also, when I try to copy a link from the forum, its in forum url. Like, www.mydomain.com/forum. If I tell anyone a link to a topic, it will be in regular forum view, so they wont even know about the other part….is this a bug? Is it supposed to be in /forum url form or should it somehow continue the index.php?page=forums type url?

Thanks again in advanced!

Well The first bug is a problem I am having as well.
The second thing though is not really a bug its suppost to be that way unless you set ocportal to set the forum in an iframe.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Thanks for the reply. I think I did set it in an iframe though, I went thorugh the settings and told it to view the forum inside of the portal…it does, but the links still are as I said. Did I do this wrong?

And hopefully the integration problem can be fixed…it would work great after that.

Welcome to our forum :).

It should be possible to get your logins merged, using 'cookie integration'. More details about this are provided in our Nuances of forum integration tutorial. Unfortunately it's very hard to get working (and there's not much we can do about it) - it even takes me about 15 minutes of fiddling around until I get the settings just right between the forum and ocPortal.
If you're having trouble and you're planning to register, we would be able to do it under the free hours of work we give new registered users.

Ami is correct that the other problem isn't really a bug. It could be worked around by applying the 'server-side' technique discussed here to IPB2:
digitalroom.net
Basically program in some special Javascript to IPBs wrapper HTML that detects whether IPB is being opened standalone, and if it is, redirects to the ocPortal equivalent URL that would normally be used.
Again, if you have any difficulties here, it's the kind of thing we can do in the 'free hours'.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Hm, I see.

Ok, well thanks for letting me know of the problem. I will try and make IPB and ocPortal use the same cookie using the admin panels. I dont think I will be able to get it though, if you couldnt (not easily anyway)…

And that other thing. That looks hard too as it doesnt seem how to say it straight out. But, I will check it all out.

Thanks again.

Ok. Ive given up on the IPB integration. I couldnt figure that cookie thing out, I tried to make sure that they were the same, but when I viewed the cookies after logging in on the portal then the forum, they looked the same (viewing the list of cookies in firefox). But it just didnt seem to make a difference.

So, now im back to SMF, my original forum. The login works fine on that. Just the links problem is still there. If you could give me a big hint or something how to solve that I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Good decision, SMF rules. Could you tell me what version of SMF you used to bridge to OCP?

SMF is pretty good, although the staff on their site arent all that cooperative anymore. They make excuses not to make mods and not listen all that well. Thats my only regret, otherwise, yes, SMF is very good.

I find your comments about the SMF staff strange. I am a beta tester and always recieved a lot of help. Sometimes it will take a while but still…

I am still happy to hear thet the bridge is working with ocportal though, thanks for sharing that information. :thumbs:

Its a possibility that you get better support because you are a tester. I am not saying they arent quick, or they arent supportive, no. Im simply saying they tend to ignore some requests that are asked for mods. Its alittle aggravating, but they are so far the best forum system that is free, then IPB for the paid ones.

And yes, it is a good thing. It works perfect, except the links arent part of the system, as it was with IPB. It stays wrapped and all, but if I were to copy a topic it would be like: /forum/index.php…. thats not how it should be, and can cause problems. Other then that, yep. Perfect work.

I figured out a neat way of fixing this cookie problem. I changed ever log in and log out link/ or box to use the forums log out and log in links and box.
here is the code I used to make the login boxes on the side personal block.

Code

<formaction="{..//forums/index.php?act=Login&amp;CODE=01&amp;CookieDate=1"method="post">

<input type="text"size="15" name="UserName" onfocus="this.value=''"value="{ipb.lang['qli_name']}" />

<input type="password"size="15" name="PassWord" onfocus="this.value=''"value="ibfrules" />

<input class="button"type="image" src="forums/style_images/1/login-button.gif"/>

</form>

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

@amichan, thanks for that. It would have probably worked if I didnt have chris look at mines.

It seemed from my knowledge that all that needed to be done was the cookies had to be exactly the same, the user_id and pass_hash needed to be the same on both sides. But, only thing that was stopping from working was a bug in the software. I know this because chris fixed this for me. It works perfect now.

The integration is alittle weak though. You can log out of either side, and one side will still be logged in. So, im going to have him whip me up something stronger, for a payment.
