I brought a friend to the ocPortal software. They do freelancing so this cms fit them the most of any. I am setting up their beginning stages and when it's time to "install"… this is what I get:

(I am using a clean installation of 4.05)

An error has occurred

PHP [2] file_exists() [<a href='function.file-exists'>function.file-exists</a>]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/usr/bin/unzip) is not within the allowed path(s): (/home/xxxxxxx/:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php:/tmp)

Is this a server issue? I wonder if I can use a different version I have that I use for my site.

Hi Edemars! This looks like a php issue where the packages cannot unpack themselves do to restrictions set in php.ini. You may have to talk to your hosting company on this one, however, Chris may have some other thoughts/ideas.

I tried the manual extraction and uploaded the files but the same error appears, so I think it is server side.

Hi,

Make a tiny change to install.php.
Replace !file_exists('/usr/bin/unzip') with !@file_exists('/usr/bin/unzip').

We added a little code to try and sensibly detect a default setting, but it's not working due to the security setting and triggering an error. Once this change is done, it should no longer be an issue (although this server here doesn't have zip file support, which could be a very minor issue in some areas where it's nice to be able to upload/download zip).

I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Chris, just for an FYI, what does the "@" denote in this case?

It suppresses PHP errors. In this case that's fine as the code involved is trying to test if something is available, and if there's an error then this is going to tell it it is not.
