Table 'ocp4_db_meta' already exists

I was thinking this install was going to go smoothly but I was wrong.
I have waited 5 weeks for my web host to move my old (non-ocPortal) website to a newer server that would accomidate ocPortal for the remake of my website. Finally ready I proceed to download and install ocPortal using the 'instant transfer' option. Download went fine and installation seemed to be going well till step 5 or 6 …then it would stall for an hour of so. After a while I started the installation over with similar results, then reinstall again. Through the process I have gotten various error messages but this is the latest:

An error has occurred:(:(:(:(

Unfortunately a query has failed [CREATE TABLE ocp4_db_meta ( m_table varchar(80) NOT NULL, m_name varchar(80) NOT NULL, m_type varchar(80) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (m_table, m_name) ) type=MyISAM;] [Table 'ocp4_db_meta' already exists]

So do I uninstall? and how. I see an uninstall.php in the files but when I open it I get this warning:

Critical error - bailing out

The website's first database query (checking the page request is not from a banned IP address) has failed. This almost always means that the database is not set up correctly, which in turns means that either backend database configuration has changed (perhaps the database has been emptied), or the configuration file (info.php) has been incorrectly altered (perhaps to point to an empty database), or you have moved servers and not updated your info.php settings properly or placed your database. It could also mean that the [font size="5of"]usersubmitban_ip[/font] table or [font size="5of"]config[/font] table alone is missing or corrupt, but this is unlikely. As this is an error due to the website's environment being externally altered by unknown means, the website cannot continue to function or solve the problem itself.
Details here are intended only for the website/system-administrator, not for regular website users.
If you are a regular website user, please let the website staff deal with this problem.

Depending on the error, and only if the website installation finished, you may need to edit the installation options (the [font size="3of"]info.php[/font] file).
ocProducts maintains full documentation for all procedures and tools. These may be found on the ocPortal website. If you are unable to easily solve this problem, we may be contacted from our website and can help resolve it for you.
Maybe someone has gotten beyond this type of error and can give me a direction to go?
Thanks in advance!

So, I have continued to try to install. I have gotten past step 6 a couple of times and knocking at the door of step 7 when the install log informs me:

Installed ofPortal forum system (OCF)

and the status bar at the bottom says:

waiting for http: //bla bla bla.com/install.php?step=7...

then I get this error message::dry:

OK, so good things come to those who wait (and try out solutions to the problem while they are waiting) Got to step 9 - I finally got this message:

The ocPortal installation log for step 9 is below:

Install log:
Installed module login
Installed module recommend
Installed module filedump
Installed module supermembers
Created custom profile fields
Installation completed
Congratulations! ocPortal is now successfully installed!

If you need to run this installer again, you will need to upload this file again, so you may wish to keep a copy of install.php on your hard drive.

Your ocPortal is not yet configured, which can be done at any time from the Admin Zone.

Configure my ocPortal first (Recommended)
Go to my new website now!
Thank you for choosing ocPortal!

Should have waited to declare victory till I clicked on the Configure my ocProtal button first

Next problem:

Critical error - bailing out

This is an error that has been elevated to critical error status because it occured during the primary error mechanism reporting system itself (possibly due to it occuring within the standard output framework). It may be masking a secondary error that occured before this, but was never output - if so, it is likely strongly related to this one, thus fixing this will fix the other.

I just went back to the begining and reinstalled from the begining. It went fairly fast, about a half an hour. Clicked on the Configure my ocPortal button and got the same Critical error message as before.

I notice that the first SQL syntax error is at line 1 and I think if that were fixed the next might be at line 2 and so on.

I think to repeat the exact same actions again and to expect different results might be what some would regard as the definition of insanity. I'd rather not go there.

My next best guess is to uninstall the whole thing manually and go from there or perhaps I can only delete the tables from the database and see if a reinstall, where ocPortal must recreate the tables, will fix the problem. I might try that first.

Anyone had this experience??

The saga continues. I dropped all the tables created by ocPortal so that the database would start over from scratch. Then reinstalled from the previously downloaded ocPortal file. After the installation when I went to configure my ocPortal I got this error message:

Unless someone comes up with a better soultion, next step for me is to drop all the database files from the database again and clear out all the downloaded files in my website directory and start over again completely.

Oh my, sorry to see your troubles. On first scan it looks like you may have an old version of MySQL (4.0) and a very slow server. I'll go through again and see if there's anything we can tackle…

then it would stall for an hour of so

It should just take about 3 mins to go right through the installer. I suspect the server you're on is severely overloaded

Unfortunately a query has failed [CREATE TABLE ocp4_db_meta ( m_table varchar(80) NOT NULL, m_name varchar(80) NOT NULL, m_type varchar(80) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (m_table, m_name) ) type=MyISAM;] [Table 'ocp4_db_meta' already exists]

As far as I'm aware this can only happen if the installation is happening twice concurrently. E.g. if you click next twice, or refresh. Which in the case of installation on a slow server is a tempting thing to do.

The actual installer code involved here is:

Code

   $GLOBALS['SITE_DB']->drop_if_exists('db_meta');
   $GLOBALS['SITE_DB']->create_table('db_meta',array(
      'm_table'=>'*ID_TEXT',
      'm_name'=>'*ID_TEXT',
      'm_type'=>'ID_TEXT'
   ));

So it deletes the table if it exists then immediately recreates it. For this to fail a second installer copy would need to have recreated the table after the first line there finishes but before the second line finishes. Very bad luck, but if you're refreshing/re-clicking a lot the higher the chances of it happening.

So do I uninstall? and how. I see an uninstall.php in the files but when I open it I get this warning:

ocPortal's installer is designed to be very robust, it shouldn't have a problem continuing from a failed installation or being refreshed at any point (as long as it is not running concurrently with another instance of itself).

The uninstaller would fail as it runs using ocPortal's code, and in this case the code can't run as ocPortal's installer wasn't finished.

Database query failed: INSERT INTO ocp4_gsp (specific_permission, group_id, the_page, module_the_name, category_name, the_value) VALUES ('reuse_others_attachments', 2, '', '', '', 1) [Duplicate entry '2-reuse_others_attachments-' for key 1]<br /> Database query failed: INSERT INTO ocp4_gsp (specific_permission, group_id, the_page, module_the_name, category_name, the_value) VALUES ('reuse_others_attachments', 3, '', '', '', 1) [Duplicate entry '3-reuse_others_attachments-' for key 1]<br /> Database query failed: INSERT INTO ocp4_sp_list (p_section, the_name, the_default) VALUES ('_COMCODE', 'reuse_others_attachments', 0) [Duplicate entry 'reuse_others_attachments-0' for key 1]<br />

Same cause as before (concurrent installers).

Unfortunately a query has failed [CREATE TABLE ocp4_menu_items ( id integer unsigned auto_increment NOT NULL, i_menu varchar(80) NOT NULL, i_order integer NOT NULL, i_parent integer NULL, i_caption integer unsigned NOT NULL, i_caption_long integer unsigned NOT NULL, i_url varchar(255) NOT NULL, i_check_permissions tinyint(1) NOT NULL, i_expanded tinyint(1) NOT NULL, i_new_window tinyint(1) NOT NULL, i_page_only varchar(80) NOT NULL, i_theme_img_code varchar(80) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (id) ) type=MyISAM;] [Table 'ocp4_menu_items' already exists]

And again.

Unfortunately a query has failed [SELECT specific_permission,the_page,module_the_name,category_name,t
he_value FROM ocp4_gsp WHERE group_id=1 UNION ALL SELECT specific_permission,the_page,module_the_name,category_name,t
he_value FROM ocp4_msp WHERE member_id=1 AND active_until>1260124995] [You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'UNION ALL SELECT specific_permission,the_page,module_the_name,category_name,t
he_' at line 1] (version: 4.2.2, PHP version: 5.2.9, URL: /adminzone/index.php?page=admin_setupwizard&type=misc)

This is due to MySQL 4.0, which s not supported in ocPortal as it's positively ancient now. It's probably also full of security holes, the web host really shouldn't still be using it.

However at least ocPortal has got a workaround here. If you create an empty file in your ocPortal directory called 'mysql_old' it will avoid behaviours that don't work on MySQL 4.0.

The current Mysql version is 5.1.35 with PHP version of 5.2.9 and the Server build date is August 2009. I had my site moved thursday last to a new server because my old server was from 2002 and used older versions of PHP without gzip support.

I have been using addr.com as host as I have for 7 years

…and yes I was thinking during my first go arounds on installation that something needed nudging so I clicked more than once at different stages.

dont know how to gague the speed of the server other than sitting in front of my computer and waiting for it to load(!) but it has seemed slow during this process.

The last 3 attempts I strictly enforced a hands off policy and let the installer do it's thing. Previously I had noticed that even a mouse movement (without click) on (and it seemed near) the button would send the status bar back to start (how wierd)

I think I am impressed with the installer although I would be more impressed if I was working on my site right now instead of scanning the forums and composing posts.

So is there any benifit to removing the already installed files and databases then installing compared to just going through a reinstall with the files as they are. I have gotten the same end result what ever I have done and it's BAILING OUT when I go to configure the site at the last step.

I actually made a mistake, it's not MySQL 4.0 that doesn't support UNION, it's MySQL 3. I'm pretty certain this is the problem. Could it be your putting in a database host that is running MySQL 3, which might explain the slowness if it's connecting to that host over a slow connection.
It is possible for a MySQL version to be misreported, as the MySQL client library version is usually what is shown, not the MySQL server version.

Previously I had noticed that even a mouse movement (without click) on (and it seemed near) the button would send the status bar back to start (how wierd)

The auto-proceed timer will stop if you put the mouse over the button.

I got the following info by calling the test.php script installed in my website folder.

Mysql version is 5.1.35

PHP version of 5.2.9

Server build date is August 2009.

would that be 'reported' wrong?

I don't know how they coded the test.php script, but it may be putting out the contents of:
PHP: mysql_get_client_info - Manual
Which could be wrong.

Again I am wondering if there will be any benefit to removing all the already installed files and databases completely and then starting over again.

I think I will try later on and see what happens.

If I didn't like ocPortal so much I would just say forget it but I have been playing around with it for a while and it is a good solution for my website needs.

The Elief hosting may be the next step if I cannot resolve the problem(s) with this current (attempted) installation. I pay much more at my current host for less than what is available at Elief.

I don't think this'll help. Did you try the mysql_old file thingy though?

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Adding the mysql_old file may have gotten me further but nothing is moving fast - I am thinking of jumping ship and getting a new hosting service.
