In Polls, the first guest's vote disables other guests chance to vote also

On my start page I have a poll and it is open to guests and members. I see that when the first guest casts the first vote that this first vote becomes logged as the 'guest' vote and any others who enter the site after as ''guest' only view the poll results and have no chance to cast their vote.

Must I restrict the poll to members only or is their a better solution?

Hi,

Actually for guests it's restricted by IP. So as long as it's a different computer voting it should be fine. I think there's an option, or a hidden option, to completely remove restrictions, but I doubt you need it.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

OK, well I've tried to test this on another computer here but both computers are on the same modem/router. The router has DHCP enabled and gives each computer a different WAN IP number but when I use an online IP checker with a browser it still identifies each of the computers as having the same IP (it must be reading the routers WAN IP). I wonder if in a school or class situation (my website is often used by schools studying dinosaurs) this same scenario my also play out there on their network and many 'guest'(s) may not be identified as different? I don't know it just may be my setup here?

So, evidently I cannot test this out on my network. I'll have to try a different network/connection later to check it out further.
