Hi,
A thought dawned on me tonight as I edge closer to launching our first OCP site - hopefully a couple of days away.

On the current Nuke site we have a paid member group that for a 15 yearly payment people are added to.

Now coming across to OCP the group is preserved but OCP does not know that it is tied to an eCommerce subscription.

Am I right in thinking that for the next year I will have to expire the paid member group manually and email the user asking them to subscribe through the eCommerce system ?

Also, not having seen it in action yet, does the eCommerce system email users when they are getting close to the subscription end and when it has expired?
And finally, is it possible to renew early ?

Cheers
Ade

Yes you'd need to retire that usergroup.

You'd need to add a new usergroup, and add a usergroup subscription against that usergroup.

Then when people buy their way in, ocPortal keeps them in as long as their PayPal subscription stays active.

That answers your last question – PayPal automatically does recurring billing, you have to explicitly cancel, you don't choose to explicitly renew.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking of using the existing group because there are 750 odd members in it and adding the usergroup subscription for membership to it.

Then for the next year I will have to do a daily check to see who needs kicking out of the group, send them an email and then they can subscribe as normal in OCP - make sense ?

Cheers
