I added the news block to my front page, and now I get the above mentioned 'warning' near the top.  Just curious as to what generates this error, or what exactly it means so I can figure out what on earth it might be and get rid of it.

Is there a news category pointing to a broken theme image? Try editing whatever news category is used.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I just created the category, and didn't select an image for it, as I don't want an image.

I will try to select an image, see what it does, then remove it and see if it comes back.

Yeah, you have to have an image for the news category selected, or you get it.   Guess I just have to modify the templates to not show it.

Oddly, even on pages where it doesn't show it, you still get the warning.

Ah, that field is not supposed to be optional. This will be fixed.
