G'day guys. It's been quite some time since I updated my version of OCP. This is mainly because the last time I did it broke half my website. However I think I should get onto it. The problem is I still have version 3.2.2 and if I recall correctly OCP doesn't upgrade across different versions. Any advice?

Greetings,

ocPortal does upgrade across versions, however there may be some issues upgrading from such an old version.

I would take the following steps:
Make bacjups of both your database and site files (at least the important ones you want to keep)

You can try the upgrader….

However thinking that may not work, you may need to upgrade manually by downlaoding the latest version, uploading the files over ftp and checking/correcting permissions, then run upgrader.php

Cross your fingers, pray, offer sacrifices to the dark and sinister internet gods, etc…

Like ocPortal? Want to thank Chris and gang somehow? Then help out in the chat room! It really needs your help! Just open it in a tab everytime you open your web browser, and when you hear a "ding", check it out!

Oh dear that doesn't sound too promising. I hope I don't have to rebuild all our galleries from scratch….again.

Does the new version have better intergration for phpbb? Currently if I want to link to a specific thread and still have phpbb display within OCP I have to use a url like this:

Code

http://lanotd.viclan.org.au/index.php?page=forums&url=http://lanotd.viclan.org.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=633

The forum integration hasn't changed, but there is a new button to add Comcode, and you'll find the 'post' tag in there.

I imagine I want the "manual extractor" for this, even though it states not to use it for upgrades?

I assume the upgrader.php upgrades the database? Would I be better off running a few upgrade.php files starting from a version closer to mine and progressing to the latest one? If so where would I find them?

Take a backup, and try the manual extraction process you suggest.

So there are no older upgrader.php files archived anywhere?

There are lots in the downloads archive, but it may work doing a single jump.

Ok the manual version just gave me this:
"The top-level configuration file (info.php) is either not-present or empty. This file is created upon installation, and the likely cause of this error is that ocPortal files have been placed, yet installation not completed. To install ocPortal, run the installer."

I assume running the installer would nuke my site.

Yes. Been there, done it, got the scars!

If you have a backup, extract the info.php file and copy it across to your 'new' installation, making sure you double-check that all the information is correct.

That should get you out of this particular predicament.

Just a few questions before I upload the file.
I assume for phpBB3 the forum_type is just set to phpbb3?
Will the table_prefix now be ocp7_ rather than ocp2_? Or do I leave it alone cause I'm upgrading not reinstalling?
What should my user_cookie and pass_cookie settings be for use with phpBB3?

forum type, yes

table prefixes, whatever they are now (tables are never renamed - prefixes will be what the first version was)

cookies - yes

Thanks. But by cookies - yes, do you mean to leave them as they are? Currently they're:
['user_cookie']='phpbb2mysql_data:userid';
['pass_cookie']='phpbb2mysql_data:autologinid';

Well that broke it lol.
"The website's first database query (checking the page request is not from a banned IP address) has failed. This almost always means that the database is not set up correctly, which in turns means that either backend database configuration has changed (perhaps the database has been emptied), or the configuration file (info.php) has been incorrectly altered (perhaps to point to an empty database), or you have moved servers and not updated your info.php settings properly or placed your database. It could also mean that the ocp2_usersubmitban_ip table or ocp2_config table alone is missing or corrupt, but this is unlikely. As this is an error due to the website's environment being externally altered by unknown means, the website cannot continue to function or solve the problem itself."

WILD guess.

Please check your files to see if 'cms' has been uploaded.

I say that because I've just gone through exactly your predicament, and for some unearthly reason when I FTP'd, the 'cms' folder didn't go up. If yours was uploaded successfully, check that some other root folder didn't get zapped!

I said it was a wild gues, so don't hold it against me ……

I re-uploaded anything that didn't have a recent "last modified" date. I ran into a couple of foreign language folders in themes I couldn't replace, but I figure those don't matter.
Site still broken :(
