login does not work right upon reinstall

I created a ocportal site for my wife and friends. Everything worked fine for several months. Then 3 days ago, it was infected with a "mass injection website 5" Long story short... I ended up deleting everything, database too, just to get rid of it.

Now I re installed it and it appears to be working fine except for two things.

1. IE does not want to log in anyone. same on safari though chrome and Mozilla work fine.
2. mobile to the site does not even show a log in or the button for creating an account. I believe it is a confirm button.

Both worked fine before.

Any ideas where I should look?

I am also considering moving hosts since my host gave me NO support through this whole thing.

Thanks for any help !

Almost forgot. When I made the site originally I used the quick install so I had no files backed up other than the theme.

I used the same method this time and then uploaded the theme myself.

Logins are treated identically on each browser and it's not like a report I remember ever seeing before, so I have no idea what could be going on there I'm afraid. Have you tried a different computer to confirm it is not a problem with the computer you're on?

If you do think this is a bug (although I think that's unlikely), you'll need to provide a lot of detail - step by step what you do to try to login, and where it fails. It should include details of any error messages, whether the browser shows it is loading something after clicking a button, that kind of thing.

As for the mobile theme, I just tested on the default v9, and there is a login link in the footer. But I don't know if perhaps the theme you are using is altered.

I'm not sure what you mean by "I believe it is a confirm button" I'm afraid. Logging in or joining would be a process of filling out a form, so I'm not sure what 'confirm' would refer to in our process. "Confirm button" is not a standard term as far as I am aware.

Hello Chris, Thanks for your time.

I tried it on my laptop and ie 10 will not log me in. chrome logs me in fine. As I said, the theme worked fine before I had to do a re install. I was just wondering if perhaps I missed a setting in setup or something.
There are no errors. the page simply refreshes after clicking the login button and I end up right back where I was needing to log in. Acts like the session cookie is not getting set or something of that nature.

As for mobile. I will have to wait until I can get with my wife and get a clearer understanding of what her problem was.

Yes, that does sound like a session cookie problem. Perhaps you need to clear out your cookies, you could have some ones on a higher precedence path/domain blocking it.

I cleared the temp ie files and the cache, still won't log me in. Guess I may have screwed the installation somehow.

Since I am going to switch hosting, I will attack this then.

Where do you host yours Chris?

Our recommended host is Arvixe, linked to from the menu above.

ocPortal.com is hosted on a self-managed dedicated server from another company.

Yeah, I'm on a self managed server right now. It was supposed to be managed so all I had to do was play with websites. But they backed out once It got infected and said it was my problem. But let them know what the ip was and they will go after them. idiots.

Guess I will check around then. thanks again. I will let you know if this is still an issue after the move.

Well, let me know if you don't I will bug em until you do :-)

Back on track…

I have some time waiting on provisioning so I went back and played with the site to see if I could find out what was going on.

First thing I checked was I removed the theme and it still did it with the default theme.

When I set the base_url to include the www in the domain name the login issue happens in ie10 I removed it and the login works fine.

I checked on two different computers and it does the same. I am going to set it up on my sandbox domain and check further and let you know if it was a freak incident or what.

Confirmed,

I set up a fresh install here using ocportal to ftp in the install files. All default settings in setup.

(unnamed)

if you edit info.php and change the base_url to include the www it will not login with ie10.
Remove it and it works fine.

You should be able to recreate it but if you want I have login info for you, if you want and I even have an ftp created should you want to look at the files. Just let me know.

Right, yes this will probably be a conflict between the configured cookie domain and the base URL. As a guess, you might have configured "0mike0.com" as the cookie domain, while technically it should be ".0mike0.com". I think some browsers imply subdomains will be covered, while others need a leading dot.

Actually, I left it blank (default) So my guess it is grabbing the main domain without the www

Right on the other browsers so if you think about it, technically, its a bug in ie10, or the other browsers. Depending on your favorite browser.
