I am now getting the error below way too often. I have recently upgraded to 7.1.6 and most recently (last night) used the fix for points over 1000 which is another issue still, I believe. I have been working on this website under 7.1.5 for a long time without any real problems then I upgraded and thought it was all OK then the points problem and now this...

After getting the error, if I refresh it will send
me back to the log in page where I have to re-login then it allows me to proceed to do what I asked- that is until I want to save or edit something then I go through the same blasted circle I have gone through so many times this afternoon. I am working on my http://davidlfriend.com website (which is not open although Chris, if your reading this, has info to gain entrance). I was thinking it was Elief at first but I am not thinking it is so now. Some kind of database problem perhaps.

One of the other things associated with this was when I was saving a comcode page it was telling me that Dave was not a user - WHAT!! - I am Dave as an ADMIN and have never had that problem.

I tried website tools and used Correct MySQL schema issues tool which returned me a message of

The following query was executed to fix the database: INSERT INTO ocp5_db_meta_indices (i_table,i_name,i_fields) VALUES ('chat_rooms','allow_list','allow_list'); INSERT INTO ocp5_db_meta_indices (i_table,i_name,i_fields) VALUES ('translate','decache','text_parsed');

Your action was successful.

So anyway this is the main error message I have been getting:

Critical error – bailing out

Could not connect to database-server (Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2), mysql_connect() [<a href='http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-connect.php'>function.mysql-connect.php</a>]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2))

Details here are intended only for the website/system-administrator, not for regular website users.
» If you are a regular website user, please let the website staff deal with this problem.

Depending on the error, and only if the website installation finished, you may need to edit the installation options (the info.php file).

ocProducts maintains full documentation for all procedures and tools. These may be found on the ocPortal website. If you are unable to easily solve this problem, we may be contacted from our website and can help resolve it for you.

I've had some oddities with eLief today - sudden reporting of CRON jobs that had not been the case before, a page than would not load, repeatedly getting logged out. Hopefully, it is just a glitch.

Just reported the short forced logouts to eLief along with a video demonstrating the situation. Hopefully, they will be on this too.

Just out of curiosity, friendly, are you using the Cloudflare CDN with your site?

Not to my knowledge …as I don't know what that is :$

BTW I also reported it and gave them a reference to this topic.

I reported and referenced this topic as well. Richard Rowan just responded that they were forced to restart a DB server and said that would account for my forced logouts, but those appear to still be happening.

I also have the one "Critical - bailing out" error which could be a DB error and I have had several email about CROM jobs running that I never usually get. I think I set those up so they are only reported when there is a problem.

While I a willing to give eLief some time to get this sorted, this is not their proudest moment. As can be seen from the Pingdom test below (pre-Cloudflare), there were issues of server unresponsivemness:

Uptime for JulianRitterCentral: 02/25/2012 - 03/25/2012

This downtime was attributed to issues with Litespeed:

®ichard Rowan from eLief said

Bob,

This should be resolved now, we've located an issue with LiteSpeed that was causing the web server to go down while the server itself and all other services on the server were running normally. It should be fixed however if you notice this again please let us know.

Best Regards,
Richard Rowan
eLief.com Administration

I am beginning to have some concerns that eLief might be having difficulty handling growth or, worse yet, suffering some atrophy. But I will cut them some slack based on their previous track record and the much better than average tech support.

I noticed Jean mentined in another thread that his site seemed slow. I am wondering if he was referencing his eLief-hosted site(s).

With that, I am off to bed as I have avery early morning tomorrow for some international calls. Hopefully, I will awake to a resolution or, at least, a statement of the problem and how it will be addressed.

This does sound like server problems. But this:
One of the other things associated with this was when I was saving a comcode page it was telling me that Dave was not a user - WHAT!! - I am Dave as an ADMIN and have never had that problem.
seems unrelated. What is the error message exactly?

Service was restored around 11pm my time - around 5 hours from first report to resolution. The problem was with the SQL server and they needed to restart that server.

While the situation was handled very professionally, I am surprised it took so long to isolate and address the problem. On the other hand, support was very responsive and (unlike some of my previous hosts) never tried explain away the matter as something it was not. My grade on this issue is a C due to the length of time for problem resolution, but eLief overall still rates much better, in the B+ to A- range.

Just started working on my site agaim and so far looks normal (as before yesterday) but I haven't been able to get the elief.com site to appear instead I get

The connection has timed out

The server at www.elief.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

They may still be dealing with something yet. As of yet I haven't recieved any response from them as to the issue, of course the email may be visible on my account accessed under elief.com and I may not get the duplicate email at my computer till later on - there is often a delay there.

Glad BobS is back in the game again too. Still I find it strange that BobS and I were the only ones reporting this since I know there a lot of Elief users here.

I don't know if this is related or not but I am not able to acess the CSS codes under Admin Zone » Style. I checked the images and templates functions but only the Edit CSS (styles) function gets the error  - These are the messages I get when I CHOOSE the CSS code:

The error was:

5: d.getElementById(id) is null
http://davidlfriend.com/data/editarea/edit_area_full.js

PHP NOTICE [8] Undefined offset: 2 in adminzone/pages/modules/admin_themes.php on line 984 (version: 7.1.6, PHP version: 5.2.17, URL: /adminzone/index.php?page=admin_themes&type=edit_css&theme=theblues&file=global.css)

Here is the stack trace:

Below is a stack trace revealing the state the software was in when the error occurred. If this represents a bug in the unmodified software, you may want to check ocPortal website for a fix, and if there isn't one, report this as a bug. Please note that merely posting a stack trace is not sufficient for us to solve your problem; the stack trace is just an aid that presents us with additional information. We still need to know the error message, what you tried to do, how you tried to do it, version numbers, and any other appropriate information.
We apologise for this problem and if it's a bug we hope you will work with us so that we can fix it for you promptly.

There's a bug fix out for that one, there's a link I think on the release announcement topic, or you can find it from the bug fixes link on your Admin Zone front page.

Yes, I am still with eLief and found out about the cron problem this morning after receiving some 25 error emails during the night between Sunday and Monday. I am still using ocP-7.1.5. so nothing related to 7.1.6.

I was not plagued by any other disturbances during the day. These glitches between cron and MySQL used to happen periodically before the revamped LiteSpeed servers but everything has been working quite well since. True, I've been seeing a bit more delays lately for the front pages of my sites to be fully rendered properly and wondering if the problem was with CloudFlare rather than with eLief since it seems to be cache related. However, once on the site, everything goes along at a good pace. My main site is jammed solid with graphics, a few animated, so I cannot blame anyone for the delays.;)

I am still annoyed with the slight delay on my front page but, like you, I have  large number of images there (and on my gallery pages). I keep on playing with the settings in Cloudflare and I've gotten the delay down to mostly a blip but I'd like to see if I can improve on that.

Still, all in all, it's a pretty impressive display for both eLief and Cloudflare that my home page is rendered as quickly as it is on a shared server.

Since March 25th or so I have been getting an error when I try to access Elief.com is anyone else having that problem? Also I was never notified like BobS (at least by email) about the problem Elief was having but that notification might have been on the messages area of my account which I cant access because aparently their site is off the grid or something...

I need to get a message to tech staff to make me a backup so I can update the Prehistorics Illustrated site to 7.1.6 before the big v8 arrives and avoid the double troubles of updating a live site.

I did check on my cpanel but the (make) backup icon is not on the FILE menu although I do have the R1 Soft Restore Backups icon

Anyone else not able to get on Elief's website?

One note - all of my websites are working and there is aparently no server problem with that part of Elief, which I am very thankful for!

I am able to reach elief.com and the portal too without issue.

If you check in the R1 Soft Restore Backups, there should be backups for the past 5 days. My last backup was yesterday (4/2) at 23:45 CDT which I could restore.

You can make a backup of your site with Installatron. You will need to import your current site into Installatron and it will back up both the files/directories and the database. There is currently a bug when restoring that only the files and directories are restored. I just manuall dropped the tables and extracted the file containing my DB backup and restored that in the terminal. The Installatron_backups folder is in your home directory.

You can also manual export the DB using PHPmyAdmin and use the File Manager to manully compress the directory you want backed up. Download these to your computer for safe keeping and you should be good to go.

You should be able to email them at support@elief.com and let them know about your issues.

So, you should have several options.

Bob
