I get the following error when a non-logged user selects Members->View member profile:

Code

There is currently no such member registered on this website.

This happens because the user is not given the chance to select the user.

Also, when "View member profiles" is unchecked in "Global permissions", a user can still see the member list (although he is denied access to the member profile). I would think that a restriction that denies access to the profile implicitly denies the option to list the members and their groups.

This would also apply to the Usermap add-on and the Users online list.

Also, the Forum->Start personal topic should not be displayed for Guest users:

Clicking this link takes you to the log-in page.

Have you enabled permissions for personal topics?

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S / Galaxy S II ? If so, why not check out my ScreenFree FM Radio .

I don't believe so. Here is the permissions table for Forums for Guest users:

Thanks for your help.

I know I've had issues in the past with some menu items not being particularly permission-aware. Looks like that is probably one of them. Not sure exactly what I did about them as it was such a long time ago.

I really think these are issues for Chris to sort. None of them is huge, but they should all be addressed or, at least, defended with an explanation.

I think Chris is really tied up with some custom work which is great but I hope he can find the time to respond to this. It would be good if these minor issues were fixed in 7.2.

I've fixed the issue with the Usermap and "Users online" using the Permissions Tree Editor. So that leaves the member issues mentioned above. I am still digging around the PTE to see what I have missed.

EDIT: Member issues are addressed by disabling Guest access to Module: members in the PTE. However, the first issue (I get the following error when a non-logged user selects Members->View member profile) should still be investigated.

I can't find any place to control the personal topics appearing in the HTML sitemap but I think that is an issue that Chris already acknowledged and said would be addressed in the next upgrade.

So, really, only a single issue remains - wish I had found these before I posted.   :$

Whoops, yes, a bug. ",'view'=>'VIEW_PROFILE'" should not be in site/pages/modules/members.php.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
