Does system notify you that connection is live?

I've installed the CRON job (I think) by following instructions in the tutorials. My question is, how do I know this has been configured correctly?

More specifically, should a tick box automatically appear in the status section of the Admin Zone next to the "set up CRON" line? I think it's working properly, I was able to set up a timed quiz and have an email sent to me but the lack of a tick box is mystifying me as I saw in another thread that it should pick it up correctly as mentioned in this thread - - View topic: [SOLVED] Quiz & cron_bridge.php

Anyone else get the tick box in there?

Hi Andrew,

You might want to ask your web host to check the command for you.

It should tick if it's worked.

Timed quizzes and regular e-mails don't require CRON to work.

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Cron working

Thanks Chris, got it going in the end. My complete lack of knowledge about Cron was what was messing me up I suspect

In case it helps anybody else, running the suggested http://yourbaseurl/data/cron_bridge.php?querymode=1 got me something like the following:

"/usr/bin/php -C -q –no-header /path/to/mysite/data/cron_bridge.php"

which for some reason wasn't working but

"php /path/to/mysite/data/cron_bridge.php"

seems to have done the trick. One of these days I will get around to having a basic understanding of unix servery things but it sure as hell ain't gonna be today :)

Anyway, working now, thanks for the feedback.
