It goes under the name of "recommend", and can be used whether or not invitations are turned on via the option is_on_invites; invitations are just a special form of recommendation. ;)

The recommendation page is here. :)

Hi Philip,

I turned on the Invite Only feature.

1) The invite email is unformatted. Very untidy.

2) Even after inviting, the "new" user visits the ocportal and signs up (join). The ocportal still blocks the "new" user saying "Invitations are currently required in order to join the site. The e-mail address given has not been invited, or has already joined since being invited."

Please help. thank you.

If HTML mail is enabled, the mail should look very nice - it'd be framed with a logo. I don't believe there's anything untidy about it that could be more tidy, so I'm not sure what's happened.
Perhaps you can post a screenshot of what you see?

To join, the prospective member would need to enter the same e-mail address that they were invited with.

I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Hi Chris,

The email seems ok now. But still unable to sign up even when i used the same email address of the person whom I sent out the invite.

I apologise for this bug, which is now fixed:

oops… more error.

when the email is sent to the new use to validate the email address. the link seems to have a bit of a problem. it comes out like: Charisma Youth Ministry Portal <http://charismayouths.org> Someone has signed you up as a member of 'Charisma Youth Ministry Portal'. If this is not something you have done yourself, you may wish to ignore this message (someone else has signed up with your e-mail address). If you are the person who signed up, you must activate your account before you may login, by clicking the link below:
http://charismayouths....ead.com.sg&code=10349 <http://charismayouths.org//index.php?page=join&type=step4&email=gerry%40lead.com.sg&code=10349>

the link is unclickable. actually have to copy and paste the link manually. looking at the "<" and ">" of the link, seems like a little code issue.

I believe this is a flaw in the e-mail program itself. I'll file the idea of providing URL-less instructions for all e-mails ocPortal sends out as an important future improvement.
