Hi, I only see one option for disabling email from other members and mass emails from staff. All I want to do is stop the members email address from being displayed, not from getting contacted by other members or getting mass email from staff. Any suggestions? Thanks! ~DC

Hello! Interesting question as indeed, there appears to be no way to turn that off, including Global permissions. We'll have to leave this one to Chris & Co., however, as a workaround for now, edit the following template:

Code

OCF_MEMBER_PROFILE_SCREEN.tpl
and comment out the following (around line 70 which I have already done for this example):

Code

<!--                  {+START,IF,{$HAS_SPECIFIC_PERMISSION,member_maintenance}}{+START,IF_NON_EMPTY,{EMAIL_ADDRESS}}
                     <tr>
                        <th class="de_th">{!EMAIL_ADDRESS}:</th>
                        <td><a class="email" href="mailto:{EMAIL_ADDRESS*}">{$PREG_REPLACE,@.*,,{EMAIL_ADDRESS}}</a></td>
                     </tr>
                  {+END}{+END}-->
and you should be good to go!

You can see from that code only people with 'member_maintenance' permission can see it. If regular members have that permission you've got a bigger security problem, if they do not then only special members like admin will see the email address.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

My security problem was that I didn't check to see what user I was logged in as…good eye Chris and sorry for leading you down the wrong path inbox0003 as I should have caught that.

Hope you're enjoying ocPortal!

Use the admin zone search. I can't remember off-hand what the written name for the permission is but searching for the codename will find it.
