It keeps banning google bot.
I remove the ip and it does it again.
I got floodded with emails about google bot going to a page that is not there any more and I have no idea why so it keeps getting banned.
I can not find any thing in the setting to change the amount of attempts before an ip ban.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Obviously it's a very serious problem if Google really is getting banned from your site. ocPortal has some measures in it to actually avoid banning search engines even if they do trigger hack-attack alerts. Either this particular GoogleBot is running from a unknown IP range, or it's actually a malicious bot pretending to be GoogleBot.

It's likely we'll create a proper option to disable banning, but here is a way to get around it for now…

To stop the banning remove these two lines from sources/global2.php

line 1404:

Code

         add_ip_ban($ip,$full_reason);
line 1408:

Code

         mail_wrap(do_lang('AUTO_BAN_SUBJECT'),do_lang('AUTO_BAN_HACK_MESSAGE',$ip,number_format($hack_threshold),array($summary,$ip_ban_url)));

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks, it did give up about 2 hours after I unbanned it and removed a few links on the main page.
