Hi Folks,

Is there a way of limiting forum attachments to images eg. .jpg, .png etc. without effecting the download section?

Specifically, I do not want my members adding .zip files to their posts, I run a download section for that to utilise the points system & validation.

TQ

Hi,

There's no way to do that right now, other than to limit daily quota low enough whereby larger files could not be used.

I've added a possible future change to the tracker 0002397: Allow specification of attachment file types per-group - Composr CMS feature tracker.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks Chris,

I thought I'd sorta got around this issue a few months ago by setting 'Maximum number of attachments per post' to 0 but it seems that a couple of members have found a work-around for this as stuff is popping up in the forum again.

I don't yet know how they are doing it but I am now wondering how to remove attachments completely from the forum, this assumes they are not doing it by some in-line method.

The thinking behind all this is the same as not letting members post off-site URL's. I don't want to put my member at risk of malware infection.

TQ

PS. I'm looking forward to moving over to Composr even though I'm mortified at the thought of doing it because of all my amateurish/sloppy coding. I'm now trying to get my site in order as I am at last investing in a new server and co-location primarily for my ocP site. TQ
