Hi, I installed Octavius (addon)

I'm in one of my sites chat room, I say hello and Octavius doesn't come in.

How do I get him working?

Was a similar topic like this somewhere I think.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

haha, it's actually your topic:

View topic: Octavius not working - ocPortal

I'm not sure it was ever resolved. Maybe try reinstalling latest version. I just know it works for me in the conditions described in the topic.

Should I go to the addons area on Ocprotal.com and download the program and upload to my site?

Should I also delete the records for Octavius on the database?

Your other JS alert error seems to be the same problem: Octavius is crashing with an error (it's hidden in the AJAX requests, the JS alert is just a symptom). It is possible it never properly installed, as the install code (which runs on first usage) can take a while to run and time out.

Try putting up this file:
Attachment
sources_custom/hooks/modules/chat_bots.php
» Download: octavius.php (12 Kb, 95 downloads so far)

And going to OcCLE and typing:

Code

:set_value('octavius_installed','0');

And then trying the chat rooms again.

I've also seen a problem at the database.

The tables for Octavius aren't there…..

I am reinstalling octavius from the addons area in admin zone first.

Yes, Octavius' database tables aren't there, that problem with sending messages is now gone when I put that file in that place.

I have copies of my databases:

Here's both of them:

My current database doesn't have the "bot" and "bots" table.

This is to do with Octavius….

Yes. Run that OcCLE command, then it will force a reinstall, and my improved code will delete anything already there, and create the new tables, without so much a risk of timeout as before. I made a few changes for all that.

I ran:

:set_value('octavius_installed','0');

It just put the code into the black space.

Nothing else happened.

Right, but then revisit the chat room and post a message. That should make Octavius realise it needs to reinstall itself.

A new problem cropped up after I copied my older database table with the "bot" and "bots" table.

So basically I copied them a cross.

A new error has come when I go to the chat room and send a message take a look.

One thing, I ask things like what's your name:

and it responds in dismissive terms.

Can I change these responses?

Thanks, is there a way to disable it if you wish for it to stop interfering when you talk to another "person"?
