Normally other hit counters count up....????

Well this is interesting....

I been watching my hit counter on www.brat-rats.com and its a strange thing that it actually is subtracting hits not adding them

Maybe my visitors don't like Rats?

Hits today is based on a rolling 24 hour period (i.e. last 24 hours), rather than a calendar day.

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

OK I think? rolling forward or backwards against the 24 hour period? ConfusionO_o hit counter is suppsed to move forward... and another slight mention I have sat on my site for an hour and refreshed to see the guests or BOT hits and for an hour nothing shows in log yet the hit counter moves backwards by some 20?????

Well, it's hits within a time period, not hits from the opening of your site. You can put one of those on (we have a block for it), but to be honest I think they belong in the 1990s. The one in the side_stats block is intended to convey how busy the site has been in the very recent past, it's more of a measure of the current intensity of things.

For every 20 minutes you wait, 20 minutes drops off too. So whether it goes up or down depends on whether the last 20 minutes was more or less busy than the 20 minutes that just dropped off the start of the time range.
