I have a question myself: Would it be a cookie problem that's causing members to be logged in one place, but not the other? For example, I can be logged into the site but not the Forums, or logged into the Forums and not on the site.

It does sound like a cookie issue to me or even a permission issue.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Hi hoskar,

I would concur it would be a cookie problem.
The easiest thing to do is to just open up the config_editor.php script on your website (http://.../config_editor.php) and blank out the cookie domain and cookie path.

Joe - you had stronghold cookies enabled on IPB, but not in ocPortal's config file. We added support for these in a patch release, but it's one of those awkward situations where config is stored in IPB's database, and ocPortal doesn't read it - so they have to be enabled in ocPortal by hand.
I've turned them on for you, and now it works :).

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I think I was the one who found that thing out. Its a nice little security feature of IPB. Only problem with it is if you go from one computer to another you have to login some of my members do not like that.  Nothing you can do about that as it is with IPB now you.

Are you using OCF, or integration with a different forum?

Does this happen on just your own computer?

My last question wasn't answered:
Does this happen on just your own computer?

Here is one more:
  • Do you choose 'Remember me' when you log in?

Ok, I don't mind running some tests then. If you're happy for this, send me a whisper with your URL. If it's not open for new users, please also send me login details.

Well-settled

Is it that you are entering zones that require you to authenticate again?  I know this happens when I am logged in and choose to go to my "Con Coverage" zone because I made it be a members only zone and if I don't ask for the creds it will let guests in.  The "Site" link at the top defaults to needing authentication to go there.

I've changed the cookie settings. Please delete any cookies you can find relating to your website from your web browser.
If you are using IE this tool will help:
IECookiesView v1.72: Cookies viewer/manager for Internet Explorer

If you are using Firefox, Firefox has a built in way to do this, just whatever you do do not click the 'Remove all cookies' button (it looks like that is the right button to press but it's not).

Make sure to delete cookies from both the www.domain.com and the domain.com variants of your domain name.

I just re-visited your site (using Firefox) and was still logged in from before (although the install path has changed I see). I've also just tested in IE, and that is also preserving logins.

Are you absolutely sure:
  1. you haven't set your browser to not accept cookies? (it must be set to accept cookies, which is the default setting in the browser)
  2. you are choosing 'remember me'
  3. you've taken up my suggestion about cleaning out old cookies, that might be blocking new and correct cookies saving
