Some of this actually relates to Mantis, but it should give a good idea. You might note I told it to ignore quite a lot, particularly ordering and pagination fields. This is because the XML Sitemap should allow Google to find all content, and we really don't want combinatorial explosion while Google checks out every possible way to juggle the pagination settings (you can see the huge numbers of URLs Google found when doing it!). If you find keep_ parameters in there, you don't want Google running off with them, so best to eliminate those parameters entirely. ocPortal already specifies a list of them to remove but you can see on our site somehow some bizarre ones got picked up (it also lists some ones it had picked up in the past). I'm going to remove them all by default in the next version because you can't stop someone creating them and then Google finding them. If I answered something that you think should be in the documentation, please take the initiative and add it to the community documentation. We really need people to help out here and build a well-organised large support resource. |

Thanks for this. I've been fighting this battle for months with my smallish site having some 40K+ URLs indexed. Looks like i will be busy tomorrow making these changes. Looking forward to future versions which exclude these permanently. Bob |
