Is it possible to give points through a link?

This is the idea I have in my head:

My site uses the Downloads mod (need points to download).
My site uses the Newsletter mod.
Some subscribe to the newsletter and some don not.

I want to reward those who subscribe by giving them points when each newsletter goes out. So I would like to be able to have them click a link in the newsletter and perhaps that triggers to give points to that member. The link could even be something like "Claim your points" message or have the points given be hidden, but when they click a link that the newsletter focuses on.

Is this possible?
Or is it doable without much of a hassle?

Thanks!

I'm not too sure of the specifics, but you should be able to accomplish this using the Quizzes in ocPortal. Create a Quiz and give it a type defined as Survey and then use a single question like 'Do you want to claim your points?' with a single answer defined as Yes. In the Advanced section of the Add Quiz screen you can assign the quiz to a newsletter and set how many points it is worth.

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S / Galaxy S II ? If so, why not check out my ScreenFree FM Radio .

I would prefer not to create a quiz for every newsletter. I send out 2 - 4 newsletter a month. Some months may be more in the future. And taking a survey for points will not interest my members. Would work but would lose interest with my members. Thanks, though.

Any other ideas?

Okay, just noticed I can create one survey and just reuse it. Can change the times and such. But, being familiar with my members, they will not want to go to that survey and click on a button to click another button to get points. They'll continue to read the newsletter, but not bother with the survey. Thus, not really rewarding them for subscribing.

Well you can set up points for a user group using gift points and use that group to send your newsletter to. Then they don't have to do anything except sign up for the group?

A new module addon could be written to handle the task of processing link clicks and assigning the points. Making this module configurable and able to track newsletters, members, subscribers, link clicks, and points would be the hard part and require a fair amount of work, but very possible.

I like the idea, so I might take a stab at it. I like the idea of being able to create links that could be posted to newsletters or even randomly be embedded around the web site as easter eggs for people to find. I'm finishing up a Twitter Feed block, then I've got a YouTube Activity Feed and YouTube Search blocks I want to do. Then I had an idea to create a configurable theme where admins can change web site backgrounds and change the styles of several different elements by making selections on a configuration page and not have to touch any CSS code to change the look and feel of the site. Where this Points For Clicks addon would fit in on my schedule, I'm not sure yet.

I would like give my members the opportunity to get points tho for each newsletter they read.

Obviously, this isn't something easy to configure.

I just might go ahead and try Jason's suggestion and get some feedback from my members.

The cleaner it is, the better. One easy click and you get your points was what I was aiming for, but that's not going to happen any time soon it looks like.

Thanks for all the great input!

If anyone comes up with something smoother, I'm all ears (or eyes).

@Jason Have you looked in the Admin. You can change images and look and feel of site (to a degree at least) without touching CSS. All images of the site can be replaced via admin even background.

Also if you really are going to stab at the newsletter thing I have a suggestion. I haven't played with the newsletter yet so maybe it does this but I doubt it:

Make a link tracking system whereby any link clicked in a newsletter gets logged and/or image links so you can tell if someone opened the email. But this could be very useful for building stats on what works in your newsleters and what doesn't type thing. But while the link goes through the tracking system it could also easily add points if needed.
