The thought is what counts, and the confusion it must have caused Rishi is worth it … !!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Gift points are received as regular points. I think the only way to get them back is if Chris & Co reverse the transactions.

I personally could never understand why the gift points pool needs to be separate from regular points, it just seems like an unnecessary restriction/complication.

See, another brain-dead moment for me, does it mean gift points are to be abolished totally so we'll all end up being points hungry selfish morons or is it to be an option to turn gift points 'on' within our own sites.

I'd hate it if gift points were abolished, it doesn't take long to get used to the system, damn, I hate capatilist rubbish.

3 possibilities of how ideally an admin could configure their site:
  • Just have points. People trade in points, like we do money.
  • Have gift points and points. People keep their points, give their gift points (which become points when given).
  • Have a combination. People can trade their own points, or give their gift points.

I think the first should be the default, because people have such a hard time understanding gift points.

I eagerly await sinking my teeth into v8 Chris!

I agree with Petrikuhr though. I'd hate to see gift points go away. Right now they are useable so that members can give points to those who deserve it, without loosing their own points. Since my site RP uses member points, that is important. So I will not be sponsoring the removal of Gift Points.

I understand your situation mythus. I think option three would be best as every site has a different priority for points and it gives individuals the flexibility to sacrifice normal points if they want to.

Option 1, definitely.

It's much more understandable and flexible.

No issues with giving all one's gifts away, then having to do more things to generate more if another worthy cause suddenly comes along, even though you've got 100,000 points.

And for people who value points, they can hold on to them more, and for those, like me, who don't mind, we can give them all away!

Definitely not option 3 - way too confusing.

That's why I love this issue… nobody agrees. It's political, and people can't decide what economic policy to set .

While option 1 was my first thought also (and still is my personal preference), I can see where mythus is coming from. Depending on the site and what's purchasable by points, there would be plenty of people who might reduce/stop their gift giving if it meant postponing/missing out on a purchase.

I still don't see what's wrong with how it works now. *shrugs*

As long as it can be easily switched to the method of points system that you want to use, I'm fine with it.

As for me and my site, my members are already used to the points as they are now. I can guarantee you that they will not appreciate having to relearn how things work, nor will they willingly give points to people, if it costs them to do so (which would impact their characters).
