Even when categories have been created. When photos are uploaded they are all lumped together in the uploads folder.

Even when categories have been created. When photos are uploaded they are all lumped together in the uploads folder.

E.g. I have 3 categories in the root gallery.

root.
   - gallery 1
      - gallery 1.1
   - gallery 2

All the images uploaded are still found in the uploads/galleries folder. very hard to keep track. I supposed the upload should be putting the images into the categories folder?? I used batched upload via zipped file.

There is a hidden option for the gallery system to store images/videos in separate folders named after the galleries, but it's hidden for a reason - if a website is running on a server with PHP 'Safe Mode' (very common) then it couldn't work due to the restrictions of the server environment. Worse though, if the hidden option was enabled on a website was running on a server without PHP 'Safe Mode', and then for some reason the server administrators turned it on, the gallery system would stop functioning.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

If your PHP installation doesn't have safe mode turned on, it's perfectly safe to use the option. ;)

Unfortunately ocProducts staff are unable to answer this, as this would be technical support and thus require a registration. For us to make exceptions to this rule would set a precedent for expectations that we couldn't fulfill, as well as cut off our income.
