i have a few questions..

My project is based on user galleries and i cant get the it righ..

here is what im trying to do:

admin creates gallery categories for user galleries
users can crate there own gallery and can only upload and see there own gallery
and the profile to show users gallery stats..

and if this is not possible than how can i integrate gallery3 in to ocPortal?

Are you trying to make it so that users can only see the pictures they themselves uploaded? Or only peoples pictures that are in the same user group?

no that's not what i want, i want to setup the gallery like in a social network i don't want a user to upload in another user's galleries..

i want to make some galleries to act like categories and let users make only sub galleries…But i don't want a user to see or upload in other users gallery when uploading pictures or creating a sub gallery….

but i want users to browse galleries..

sorry for poor description earlier…

A good place to review would be the ocPortal Tutorial: Advanced galleries, in that tut there is a section about Member Galleries

I'm sure it can be done with advanced coding…

But one solution is to set permissions where the photos need approval and you'll have to approve them and make sure they're put in the correct gallery. Otherwise, I believe the galleries are set up so that members can add to any gallery.

ocPortal doesn't really have user-level permissions (focus is on group-level permissions). Personal categories are a special case, and ocPortal by default only lets admins and the owner submit to a personal category. But there's no way to go further than that and say that users can manage subcategories under them in any special way, and there's no way to limit view permissions to specific users.

This is because ocPortal wasn't really designed to be a large social network, it's main usage is for a website where content is shared and organised as part of the whole website, rather than limited to individual users.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I think that ocPortal is capable for a small community. I tried elgg,jcow,joomla,drupal,xoops...but there are no core plugins and all the plugins you install sooner or later get bugy....ocPortal has all the functions I need and more...the only problem is the gallery and where ever I look it says ocPortal is integratable with other software. I was tinking if I could integrate gallery3 in ocPortal I would be happy. So is there any way that this could happen?

I did see someone else post about gallery integration in a very recent topic.

Gallery 2 integrates really easy. I just added the sample embed code with a few small edits to minimodules_custom and called it as a page. It works really well to embed it visually but I never tried merging member systems though.
