Security

Is there a spot on Ocportal that I am missing in security somewhere when setting up galleries and videos to keep someone from seeing the url to where the video is uploaded? I ask this so someone cannot just copy the URL and steal the video and bandwidth?

I know I can keep a user from d/l the gallery and video, but if you right click on the video and go to properties it gives the url. Does Ocportal have a feature I am missing that will hide the video and image URL?

I believe what you're asking for is impossible in any situation, with any software, as for a browser to be able to show a video, it has to know the URL, and that URL is going to be plainly visible in the page's source.

However, most hosting control panels have "leech protect" functionality – or something similar – and you could use that. :)

So then having the video section set up or embed to play the video in a flash/shockwave so that those properties are not viewable are out of the question as well?

Or would that be a totally different type of set up all together?

ocPortal doesn't support it, but it shouldn't be too much more complex than modifying the relevant templates.

What phillip said is right.
Even if you disable right click our leach protect the video can still be downloaded.
All some one has to do is save the page.
The only site with video that are not able to be downloaded is youtube.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Not completely correct, if you have FireFox and a extension you can download the videos…  Only they are saved in FLV format, but that can be converted also.

I guess a warning in your line of work tends tomean 'run for cover'. Fortunately it's not so severe when it comes to computers ;).

Ah I have seen some sites that make the video a txt file so when you download it you have to change it form .txt to some thing else.

Ya an easy one to save.
Is it that easiness that you wish to stop?

Easy, as in where is the file to save to your computer? To me it appears encrypted in the code. I could have missed it, but it doesn't appear to be there for me?

And since this is a flash embedded source, I cannot extract the file or embedd it into a comcode page. I am guessing that comcode pages dont allow this type of code???

You could put the markup for the Flash player in [semihtml] tags. ;)
