I have downloaded a new installation of 5.0.3 for another website and it goes flawless from the instant transfer untill I try to move beyond step 4 to step 5. At that point I get this warning in a box saying:

"Could not login to the FTP server [ftp_login() [function.ftp-login]: Login authentication failed]"

Isn't the ftp info the same as what I put in at the instant transfer? I am installing on Elief again.

I don't know why that's not working, but I can say the 5.1.0 beta1 quick installer probably will install on Elief without needing FTP.

Also I would try leaving the FTP host as 'localhost'. Sometimes a problem can happen on servers where the DNS gets confused.

When I put 'localhost' in at FTP Hostname it doesn't seem to make any difference and I get this message

Code

404 Not Found

404 Not Found

The resource requested could not be found on this server!

Powered By LiteSpeed Web Server
LiteSpeed Technologies is not responsible for administration and contents of this web site!

When you say use the "5.1.0 beta1 quick installer" Where do I find this?

I mean when it asks you for the FTP hostname as one of the fields. I think it is filled in as localhost by default.

Thank you Chris. The use of Localhost didn't help any but using the 5.1.0 beta installer without FTP was way easier and quick for me.

Friendly,

As far as I know, using Elief's auto installer script will not reveal the admin password required to eventually connect with the FTP for subsequent upgrades. In some cases, upgrader.php will detect the correct one, but in others you have to edit info.php, copy the password code from: $SITE_INFO['admin_password']= (this is a code representation of the password, but it will work) and paste on password field. I found that it always work fine for me and subsequent upgrades will not ask for it again, unless you change browser.

It's not just the same as the default admin user's password?

Not as far as I was able to test it. The default admin password did not cut it every time I tried, but the other one works always.
