I'm trying to find the setting to let members post to the forum without requiring admin validation. Anyone know where I can find that?

Go into security in the admin zone and then go through your permissions, it's in there. Go to global specific permissions and then submissions….not a bad idea to go all the way through and check out all your permissions. After you set and save the first page it will bring you to the next set of permissions and so on.

If you've already set up forums, you'll probably need to go through each forum as well and change permissions on those. I believe those do not change when you change the default permission settings where Brian led you.
