Hi guys,

There is a problem with new post or reply notifications from the forum (specificailly www.precisionracingleague.com in my case).  I have tried 5 different e-mail addresses.  Two of them were @live.com and one was @hotmail.com and notifications do not go to either (checked block settings and junk mail too).  They did go to the other two e-mail addresses I tested.

Seems there is a problem with the Microsoft ones (live and hotmail).  Couldn't say if its an issue on Microsoft's end, or ocportal's end, but it needs looking into.

Thanks!

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Oops - didn't realize I wasn't logged in.  That was me above.

Funnily enough, I get notifications from this forum, but not my own one at www.precisionracingleague.com.

They were working fine at the e-mail address I'm using until sometime soon after 3:35pm EST on Friday 12th.

Did you do this by getting a notification to go to go@spamscore.de directly from your site, and make sure you receive its response because you've set up the website from/staff addresses as ones you can receive?

That's what you need to do.

'EMPTY_MESSAGE' surprises me if this is what you did do.

I didn't fully understand your last response, but I'm not the site admin, just one of the moderators.  That said, I'm back because the notifications only worked with my @live.com address for about 12 hours before they stopped working again.  As soon as I changed my e-mail address associated with the site to my work one, they started working again, so what is the issue with @live.com?

Spam filters run by email providers use different scoring mechanisms, it's hard to guess what might set them off. Microsoft probably use a crappier spam checking system that is more sensitive for false-positives.

It may be that setting up SPF on the sending addresses domain, providing explicit authority for the server to send email for that domain name, would work as a positive signal to live.com that the mail being sent is not spam.

But it's 99% guess work unless you can find a way to get a spam report from a mail the server has sent, and then that makes it only 50% guess work ;).
