I have been looking for 2 months for a means to have member's new posts auto-validate, and have not been 100% successful.
We are also experiencing sporadic email alerts to replies and new PT's.
Site is/was a conversion from a broken version of SMF, main usage of members is forums.
I am expecting something in the DB to be the root cause, however it is beyond my experience to find and correct.

The Sporadic Replies may be members settings to notifications I would suspect which is found under the notifications tab for each persons profile.

The New members Auto validated is a forum permission based on the new members group. Find that group and give it the Bypass Topic validation and Bypass Post Validation for the forums you wish. Oh and don't forget Add Post and Add Topic and the edit own permissions.

Still having issues with validation; No idea what the %$^* is going on. I set and save, hours to days later there are more posts awaiting validation..
I almost suspect my host is reverting or rubber banding the database somehow, just cancelling anything I've just accomplished.

screen cap taken just on the off-chance that I am doing it wrong. (also likely)

I'm frustrated beyond description at this point..

Look on the edit screen for the forum being posted in, you may have overridden the privileges for that forum.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

You sir, are a genius!
Every forum was set to negative under bypass validation for the two classes of members that were having the issue.
 Thanks so much!

Honoured member

I may not be able to figure out how to us the users manual but this has to be a glitch in the way blog entries are suppose to be self validated.

Here is the 2 min youtube video of the screen capture

---------update -------------------
I read the tutorial site appears to work as desired. -- The video still shows an interesting work around is the site tree permissions aren't set to allow this.

Thanks for that :). I'll take a closer look, I'm not sure if that's a bug, but it's certainly confusing.

Regarding the pspell error, if you turn off "Enable spell check when previewing" in the config it'll get rid of this error. Or fiddle with the 'dictionary' language string in the 'global' language file (possibly set to "en" or "en_US").

Right, so you've won me over, thanks for making the case :).

The issue is that the cms_blogs module doesn't support checking against your blog category's privileges, while the cms_news one does. We'll get that sorted, although it's slightly tricky due to how cms_blogs works.
