receiving "forbidden" error

Hi,

i am slowly losing my mind here. i have installed the script on GoDaddy servers successfully, although on their server it was painfully slow because of the separation of the SQL server and the hosting server, but it was working.

i just switched and did a fresh install on HostGator, and this is where i am getting issues. now, i am logged as a SuperAdmin and i can use most features on the admin zone, but when i go to the frontpage and try to edit some of the features here, i get the forbidden error, it says i dont have permission to access this on this sever.

now, i have done two manual installs and still had the issue, so i did a third install, and the third one was the quick installer that is supposed to correct permissions and still have the same problem. So, my questions is what am i overlooking that i am still having this issue?

Please help

Rename recommended.htaccess to .htaccess to disable Apache's mod_security which is thinking WYSIWYG edit's are attacks on the server (mod_security is stupid…).

Community saint

I have THREE installations on Hostgator, but don't suffer from this issue.

In the past, there have been 'problems' with Hostgator. One of the 'discoveries' when working alongside a help-desk tech was to find that somehow ALL the directories managed to have 777 permissions set. Sorted the permissions, and the problem went away. Never did get to the root of how it happened, though.

Perhaps you should check your Hostgator DB with your FTP client and check the permissions to start with.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Fletch may be right too.

Your hosting control panel will have Apache error logs, they often contain details of what went wrong. I'm pretty sure it'll be an Apache server configuration restriction of some kind, the web host support may be able to advise.

chris,

so, any idea why this isnt working, i did contact hostgator and they didnt see any issues, i already deleted everything and reinstalled again only to find the same issue, and i rand the updater.php and it says all permissions are correct, and i chnged the reccommend.htacess like you said.

it seems odd to me that i can edit some things in the admin zone, but nothing anywhere else, and if i log out with my site closed, i cannot login, or join the site because i get the same issue as in admin.

if you would like i can PM you with login details and you can look and see if it is me, or the script.

please let me know something as i need to get this working.

thanks

Sorry, it's a server issue of some kind (even if the web host don't admit it [or their support staff aren't technical enough], they will have something on there blocking stuff), so I can't handle it like a bug with free support.
