The new editor is formidable in many aspects, but seems to be missing a spell checker.

This feature is dearly needed for sites were the native language is not English, but used for all site contents. However, I've noticed that the spell checker was not entirely gone as I found it lurking, ready to assist on news comments.

Enabling the setup spell checker on previews is not quite as helpful.
Any idea on how to implement one again?

BTW, I personally greatly miss it on this forum as well.:(

I turned it off for Ckeditor as it's ad supported which I considered a gross territory violation. However now I see the browsers own spell check is subjugated. I'll see what I can find…

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Ok, template change (NB: this further supersedes the previous draft changes I posted for you before)…

Attachment
» Download: JAVASCRIPT_EDITING.tpl (17 Kb, 102 downloads so far)

The change here is you can now go into OcCLE and type this:

Code

:set_value('commercial_spellchecker','1');
or if you don't type that then the browser spellcheck is not subjugated anymore (although you have to hold down ctrl whilst right clicking to access it).

Requires emptying the template cache after running the OcCLE command.

Patch works for me.

The ad supported spell-check really is intrusive. I won't be turning that any time soon ;) .

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S / Galaxy S II ? If so, why not check out my ScreenFree FM Radio .
