Do the ocf forums provide the option to go to the first unread post as in phpBB or vBulleting. Can't seem to find it and it would be a nice feature to have.

I've also seen this in a few packages and agreed, would be a nice addition to our community wish list.

it does, just click the 'this is unread' arrow instead of the topic name.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Who knew? That's rather slick.

I've got to put it into my help file so people know that it's there.

I'm quite surprised that nobody picked up on this sooner.

Do you have any suggestions on how to make the feature more obvious? Perhaps a different icon?

Robbie-

I suspect it's more a matter of where people are used to finding the option. in vBulletin, you see it at the top of the Topic if you have unread posts so it's quite clear.

I actually like your implementation better since it saves a step but maybe an icon that suggested "unread" rather than just "down" would be better.

Robbie, me too, but as Bob has suggested, the icon is very similar to others used in ocPortal that refer to collapsing or down; I'm wondering if the eyes just gloss over it. Up until Chris pointed it out, I never even noticed it there (mind you, to be fair, I've never been confused with Sherlock either) ;)

Here's how vBulletin does (just to illustrate an example)

On the right, under "Last Post" clicking on the title takes you to the first unread post and clicking on the little icon the latest post.
