Well-settled

Hello,
I've got http://www.metal-temple.com running on a ocportal 8 (upgraded from 6 to 7 then stopped since I had to redo the theme and had no time).
Recently FB changed from 2.1 API to 2.3 (minimum).

That pretty much broke the ability of anyone who had connected his account to facebook to login.
My editors are getting restless and I'm trying to figure out what to fix. :P
I upgraded from 8.1.10 to .35, uninstalled and reinstalled the Facebook addon, but all I get is a blank popup when I press Facebook login which instantly disappears.

Upon visiting the app on facebook, I saw the multiple warning that they'd move me soon from 2.1 to 2.3 (which broke the login methinks).
But I also noticed a warning "Client OAuth login is enabled but you haven't listed any valid OAuth redirect URIs".
Filling that field with "https://www.facebook.com/dialog/oauth" stops the popup from closing but it gives me "URL blocked: This redirect failed because the redirect URI is not white-listed in the app's client OAuth settings. Make sure that the client and web OAuth logins are on and add all your app domains as valid OAuth redirect URIs." so I'm guessing I'm not giving the correct url since I'm guessing it should be something in the likes of "http://www.metal-temple.com/somethingOATHsomething"???

Chriiis, I need your help (once again, lol).

Hello,

I don't think I can help honestly, it would be about a days work to go back and refresh all that code, which is about 5 years old now. Likely the Facebook PHP library would need replacing, which would mean compatibility changes would need making in our code calling that API. Then I'd have to go through testing to make sure that nothing is tripping up, which is particularly complicated with Facebook as requests are going back and forth, with all kinds of settings. After all that work I could possible not even find a bug, as it could be some kind of configurational change that Facebook has imposed.

I think you either need to disable the addon and ask the users to go through password resets (which will disassociate the account from Facebook), or bite the bullet and upgrade to v10. ocPortal isn't going to be supported even with security fixes once we hit year end.

Sorry, I just don't have the kind of time to go back over this very old complex stuff.

I suppose another option would be to find a developer who has the time on a freelancer offshoring site.

I'm updating our setup instructions for Facebook's end, as they're constantly changing their dashboard. This applies to how it is now:

  1. Go to set up your app on Facebook
  2. Click on right upper corner "Add a New App" button
  3. Type your site name
  4. Go into the setup of the new app
  5. Go to the "Settings" section
  6. Enter your domain name into the "Main App Domain" field
  7. Enter your privacy page URL into the "Privacy policy URL" field (link to your website's privacy page)
  8. Change the "Contact Email" field if no e-mail address is currently there, or if it is wrong
  9. Click "Add Platform"
  10. Choose "Website"
  11. Enter your base URL into the "Site URL" field. It's crucial that you give Facebook the correct base URL to your site. It absolutely will not allow things to integrate if it does not match exactly. Make sure you have the same case (i.e. all lower case) and the same use or non-use of 'www.' in the domain name and same use of 'https' or 'http'.
  12. Click "Save Changes"
  13. Click "Add Product" in the left pane
  14. Select "Facebook Login" (click "Get Started" next to it)
  15. Enter your base URL into the "Valid OAuth redirect URIs" field. As with "Site URL" it is crucial that you get this right.
  16. Click "Save Changes"
  17. Go to the Dashboard section
  18. Note down your "App ID" and your "App Secret"

As for the coding, I'm just not going to have time to go over the old code if it's become incompatible, maintaining for v10 is all I can really stretch to.
Maybe another developer can look at the v10 implementation and back-port if required.

Hey Chris! Thanks for the replies, I completely understand the problem with such old code which probably not anyone uses anymore. ;)
I was hoping it would be something simpler but it seems like I'll just do what you suggested and disable the Facebook plugin all together and see what can be done about going to 10.

OC Portal reports that it has connected to Facebook properly, no error there. What I do needed to know was what what goes in "Valid OAuth redirect URIs"

Is it just the base url of my website, i.e. "www.metal-temple.com"?

Anyway, thanks again!

Yes, base URL.
