Why is my site so slow?

I was running 3.0(some flavor) and was getting ready to abandon ocPortal and go back to a hand coded website becasue it is extreemly slow on my site for some reason. I upgraded to 4 (latest version .03) and it's still very sluggish…takes 45sec to a min to bring up the home page about the same to log in, etc. I'm not sure what is wrong, I haven't done alot of customization to the site other than add some com pages and a zone or two. Hand coded websites seem to run fine on my providor. I'm hosting with Websitesource and my web address is www.trailnaz.org. Can anyone shed some lite?

I opened the link you provided and jumped around a few other links. Main site loaded in about 5-7 seconds and randoms links seem to open rather quickly 3-5 seconds.

No issues I can see loading your site.

hmmm, I don't understand it then. I'm on Comcast at home and AT&T at work and they are both very sluggish on the initial load of the page. The pages do seem to take about 5-7 seconds when you are clicking around. Is that normal? It just seems slow to me.

I Took a look at your site and when I first pulled it up I did count like this. 1  1000 2 1000 3 1000 and I  did get to 12 before it loaded for me.
After a while it did speed up for me.
One thing you could try to make it go faster which is some thing I did is turn on gzip.
I can not remember off the top of my head where that is at but I think its in the setup under configuration.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Check that your caches are enabled and also as Amy mentioned the Gzip output.

Adminzone/Setup/Configuration/Site Options

Other than that, If I remember correctly, anything under 8 seconds (or was it 6 sec) your golden. The way some of the media type pages load now days they are well over that old 8 second rule.

Excelent, thank you both for the feedback. I'll see what I can find in the configuration.

All the cache options were already on....I did however turn on gzip and that has seemed to help some. Thanks again!

What is the server configuration for your host? My site was quite slow until I moved up to a vps with more memory and cpu speed. Now it move quickly, less than a second for most pages to load.
